49ers vs. Bengals, 9/15/19 NFL Week 2 Betting Predictions

The 49ers will look to start the season 2-0 when they visit the Bengals at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday. That said, the line has jumped the fence for this matchup, with Cincinnati moving to a 1-point favorite after opening as an underdog. Are the Bengals the play?

Game Snapshot

277 San Francisco 49ers (+1) at 278 Cincinnati Bengals (-1); O/U 46

Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, OH

Public Betting Trends

According to our NFL Football Public Betting Chart page, the Bengals are receiving 51% of the betting tickets from online sportsbooks.

San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Spin

49ers DE Nick Bosa (ankle) is questionable for the team’s Week 2 matchup against the Bengals. Bosa suffered a minor setback in his sprained right ankle following the team’s Week 1 win over the Buccaneers. We tentatively expect him to suit up Sunday after returning to practice Friday. Bosa was a beast in his NFL debut, consistently wrecking havoc in the Bucs backfield as a pass rusher and run defender alike. His presence would be bad news for the entire Bengals offense.

Cincinnati Bengals Fantasy Spin

Joe Mixon (ankle) is questionable for the Bengals’ Week 2 matchup against the 49ers. The good news is that Mixon returned to practice Friday. He’s dealing with a low-grade sprain, but clearly the Bengals’ featured back is operating at less than 100%. We tentatively expect Mixon to suit up Sunday, although it’d be unwise to assume he reaches 20-plus touches and has his usual role. Giovani Bernard would be in play as a rock-solid RB2 if Mixon is ultimately sidelined. Gio would be a thin flex option at best with Mixon in the lineup.

NFL Betting Trends

San Francisco

The 49ers are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games and are 1-4 against the number in their last five games coming off an ATS win.

Cincinnati

The Bengals are 5-0 against the spread in their last five games dating back to last season and are 21-8-2 ATS in their last 31 games played in the month of September.

Prediction

Not having Mixon would be a big blow to the Bengals offense but Cincinnati lost him during the game last Sunday in Seattle and Andy Dalton managed quite well. Even without A.J. Green, Dalton threw for over 400 yards against a Seattle defense that is still an above average unit despite not being what it was during its back-to-back Super Bowl runs. Dalton looked sharp in Taylor’s system and even though the Niners played well defensively last week, I like the Bengals to move the ball enough to post a win on Sunday. Plus, I just don’t like the situational spot for the Niners, who are having to play back-to-back games in the Eastern Time Zone to start the season. NFL schedule makers did the 49ers zero favors early in the year.

NFL Week 2 Prediction: Cincinnati Bengals -1
