Public Betting Trends

According to the latest oddsmakers, Appalachian State is the clear favorite on the road, as the Mountaineers are getting odds of -24.5 points against South Alabama. The over/under total for the contest is listed at 53 points. The public betting currently has 84 percent going on Appalachian State as the road favorite. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.

App State stays unbeaten

The Appalachian State football team kept its unbeaten season going last weekend with a 52-7 win over UL-Monroe. The Mountaineers are now 6-0 on the season, 3-0 in the Sun Belt, 5-1 against the spread and 3-3 with the over/under total.

The Mountaineers have been pretty steady on both sides of the ball this year. The offense is averaging 42.8 points and 438.7 yards per game while the defense is giving up 21.7 points and 357.8 yards per contest. Darrynton Evans is leading the offense with 676 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns while Zach Thomas has thrown for 1,163 yards and 10 scores while rushing for 224 yards and four scores. Thomas Hennigan is the leading receiver with 27 catches for 316 yards and three touchdowns. Akeem Davis-Gaither is leading the defense with 43 tackles, 2.5 sacks and one interception.

Jaguars struggling to get on track

South Alabama is riding a five-game losing streak following a 37-13 loss at Troy last week. The Jaguars are now just 1-6 on the season, 0-3 in the Sun Belt, 3-4 against the spread and 6-1 with the under.

USA doesn’t have much going for it, as the offense is putting up just 16.3 points and 312.6 yards per game. Defensively, South Alabama is allowing 30.4 points and 405 yards per contest. Tra Minter is leading the offense with 563 rushing yards and two touchdowns while Cephus Johnson has thrown for 891 yards and five touchdowns, but also has seven interceptions. Kawaan Baker is the leading receiver with 21 catches for 395 yards and three touchdowns.

College Football Betting Trends

Appalachian State

The Mountaineers are 4-1 with the under in their last five games in October and 4-1 with the under in their last five conference games.

South Alabama

South Alabama has hit the under in five straight games overall and in six of their last seven following a failed cover.

Appalachian State has won the last two in this series and the two have hit the over in three straight meetings. The Mountaineers have been able to steadily put up points and South Alabama has been giving up points in droves, even at home. The total isn’t set too high here, so I like the over. App State should be able to take advantage of the USA run defense, which is giving up over 200 yards per game. While the Jaguars don’t have much of an offense, they still find ways to put up around 10-17 points in most games.

College Football Week 9 Prediction: Appalachian State/South Alabama Over 53
