Flores homers against former team

Arizona lost by a score of 3-1 Monday night in its series opener at New York to drop to 75-69 overall and 39-36 on the road. Wilmer Flores provided the offense for the Diamondbacks as he went 1-for-3 with a solo home run. Josh Rojas and Eduardo Escobar each finished 1-for-4. Merrill Kelly took the loss as he allowed three earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and two walks over six innings. Zac Gallen draws the start tonight as he enters with a 3-4 record, 2.50 ERA and 1.23 WHIP plus 82 strikeouts over 68 1/3 innings pitched.

deGrom spins a gem

New York picked up a 3-1 home win Monday night over Arizona to improve to 73-70 overall and 39-29 at home. Jacob deGrom notched the win on the mound as he allowed one earned run on three hits with 11 strikeouts and one walk across seven innings. Seth Lugo picked up the save as he struck out four over two perfect innings. Pete Alonso paced the Mets offense as he finished 2-for-4 with his MLB-leading 46th and 47th home runs, both solo shots. Wilson Ramos went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Amed Rosario ended the game 2-for-3 with an RBI. Zack Wheeler gets the start tonight as he comes in with a 10-7 record, 4.33 ERA and 1.31 WHIP plus 163 strikeouts over 166 1/3 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

The Diamondbacks are 6-0 in their last six Tuesday games. Arizona is 5-1 in the last six Gallen starts.

New York

The Mets are 6-2 in the last eight Wheeler starts. New York is 2-8 in its last 10 home games.

Gallen was a fantastic acquisition by the D-backs at the trade deadline and he certainly isn’t pitching like a rookie. Arizona has played well on the road this season and the Mets are maddeningly inconsistent. I’m thinking this will be a reverse of last night’s result with the Diamondbacks winning a close, low-scoring affair.
