Grizzlies get balance on offense to beat Warriors
Mar 20, 2010
Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Rudy Gay led three Grizzlies with 20-plus points with 25 along with six rebounds to help Memphis beat the Golden State Warriors, 123-107, at FedExForum.

O.J. Mayo netted 21 and Zach Randolph tallied 20 and 13 rebounds for the Grizzlies, who are still mathematically alive at five games behind Portland for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with 12 games to play.

Darrell Arthur chipped in with a career-high-tying 16 and Mike Conley added 15 as Memphis won for the second time in three games.

Monta Ellis scored 28 to the lead the Warriors, who have lost three of their last four. Corey Maggette dropped 20 points and Reggie Williams added 15 for Golden State, which gave up 147 in a 31-point loss at San Antonio on Friday.

Memphis pulled away in the fourth quarter, extending its advantage to 22 on a Williams triple with nine minutes left. The Warriors never closed in further than 16 as Earl Watson hit a jumper with 18.2 seconds left to end the scoring for both teams.

"The second half was very difficult for us," said Warriors coach Don Nelson. "We don't have much size anyway and when (Chris) Hunter came up with tendinitis and couldn't play, we had to play with a small team the whole way and got beat on the boards again. They got control of inside points. It was a long night."

The Grizzlies led 14-9 on a Hasheem Thabeet dunk with 8:29 left in the opening quarter, but Golden State took the lead at 26-24 on an Ellis driving finger roll. The Warriors held a one-point advantage at 31-30 after one quarter.

Memphis went ahead immediately in the second quarter and never trailed the rest of the night. The Warriors tied the game twice, but trailed by a 69-64 difference at the half.

Conley drained a triple to give the Grizzlies their first double-digit advantage at 78-66 with 8:55 to go in the third. They stretched the lead to 21 on Randolph's layup at the 2:38 mark and ended period with a 107-90 cushion.

Game Notes
Memphis shot 50 percent from the floor and outrebounded Golden State 54-37...Sam Young scored 11 points off the bench for the Grizzlies...CJ Watson added 13 off the bench for Golden State...The Warriors converted on just 6-of-21 threes.
