Baltimore Ravens vs. Miami Dolphins, 9/6/19 Week 1 Predictions

The rebuilding Dolphins will host the Ravens in South Beach at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday in a matchup that could be low scoring. That said, is the 38.5-point total too low for bettors?

Game Snapshot

459 Baltimore Ravens at 460 Miami Dolphins

Public Betting Trends

According to our NFL Football Public Betting Chart page, the Ravens are receiving 69% of the betting tickets from online sportsbooks.

Baltimore Ravens Fantasy Spin

Ravens OC Greg Roman told reporters Thursday that while Mark Ingram is the team’s starting running back, everybody is going to contribute. Specifically, Roman stated, “We’ll see who has the hot hand. Mark’s our starter. Everybody is going to contribute.” Ingram should get the bulk of early-down carries, but it’s clear that each of Gus Edwards and Justice Hill are going to be involved as well. Last season Edwards, Kenneth Dixon and Ty Montgomery formed a three-back committee during the Ravens’ final six games, with none of the backs ever surpassing even a 55% snap count in a single contest. The entire Ravens’ rushing attack is set up beautifully in Week 1 against the Dolphins’ porous defense.

Miami Dolphins Fantasy Spin

Dolphins coach Brian Flores said Kenyan Drake will “get a lot of touches” Week 1. Flores continued, “I think he’s both physically and mentally ready. This is a guy who has as much talent as we have on our team.” Drake is the Dolphins’ starter over Kalen Ballage, and he should see a chunk of targets while the Dolphins inevitably trail in games. His touchdown upside is limited, but Drake is a flex option based on projected volume.

NFL Betting Trends

Baltimore

The under is 5-2 in the Ravens’ last seven road games and has cashed in four of their last five games played in Week 1 of a season.

Miami

The under is 8-3 in the Dolphins’ last 11 Week 1 games and is 5-2 in their last seven games played in September.

Prediction

The under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in Miami and I don’t see how these two teams score enough on Sunday to cash the over. The Dolphins’ defense will struggle this season because it’s not overly talented, but the Ravens will be run heavy again and that means the clock should be running constantly on Sunday. While Ryan Fitzpatrick had some big games in Tampa a year ago, he moves South this year and outside of Drake, there’s not a ton of talent around him in Miami. And while Baltimore had to replace a couple of key pieces in its front seven this year defensively, the Ravens have more than enough to hold the Dolphins’ offense in check this weekend.

NFL Week 1 Prediction: Ravens/Dolphins UNDER 38.5
