Public Betting Trends

Oddsmakers from online sportsbooks currently list the Red Sox as a -330 favorite. As of this writing, 71% of the betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Red Sox to beat the Orioles on the moneyline. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on this game.

Red Sox Sale (shoulder) set to come off disabled list Sunday

Chris Sale (shoulder) completed a successful 50-pitch bullpen session on Thursday. That puts Sale on track to start Sunday against Baltimore. He’s been out about two weeks with left shoulder inflammation. With Sale and Eduardo Rodriguez (ankle) both on the mend, Drew Pomeranz could soon be in danger of losing his spot in the starting rotation.

Orioles’ Cobb strong in last outing versus Rays

Alex Cobb pitched seven innings of one-run ball against the Rays on Tuesday.

Cobb has allowed two earned runs in his last two starts, and he’s pitched to a 2.37 ERA in his last five outings. There still isn’t much reason to pick him up in mixed leagues when he’s pitching for a bad team with a very rough schedule, but at least he’s turned around what’s been a truly miserable season.

MLB Betting Trends

Boston

The Red Sox are 6-0 in Sale’s last six starts and are 4-1 in his last five road outings.

Baltimore

The Orioles are 4-17 in Cobb’s last 21 starts overall.

Prediction:

The umpire behind the plate today has been one of the more profitable ‘over’ umpires in baseball. The over is 52-25-7 in Adrian Johnson’s last 84 games behind home plate. Granted, Sale could shut down the Orioles but it’s unlikely the Red Sox push him hard coming off the disabled list. Thus, as long as Boston tees off on Cobb and the Orioles can contribute a few runs off the Red Sox’ bullpen, then the over should cash.

The Pick: Red Sox/Orioles over 8.5
