Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers 10/27/18, Prediction & Odds

The longest game in World Series history ended in the 18th inning last night when Max Muncy sent everyone home with a game-winning home run. Can the Los Angeles Dodgers build on that victory today and defeat the Boston Red Sox again to even the series at two games apiece?

Muncy plays role of hero

Los Angeles was in desperate need of winning Game 3 or it would have faced a 3-0 World Series deficit. Max Muncy made sure that didn’t happen in the bottom of the 18th inning Friday night, over seven hours after the game started. His walk-off home run sent host LA to a 3-2 victory and pulled it within 2-1 in the series. Muncy finished the night 2-for-6 with the home run, a double, two walks and two runs scored. In Muncy’s previous at-bat, he nearly ended it but the home run bid hooked right of the foul pole. Both teams scored a run in the 13th inning to even it at 2-2 before Muncy ended it. Justin Turner went 2-for-8 with a double, while Yasiel Puig finished 2-for-7. Yasmani Grandal went 1-for-3 with a walk before being subbed out. Alex Wood walked one in a scoreless inning of relief as the ninth Dodgers pitcher to earn the win.

Bradley Jr. homers in defeat

Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning last night off Kenley Jansen to even the score at 1-1 in the marathon game. He went 2-for-5 with the homer plus two walks. Brock Holt was 1-for-6 with a walk and a run. Eduardo Nunez finished 2-for-4 off the bench. Boston was held to seven hits, but did walk seven times. Nathan Eovaldi suffered the loss as he gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits over six innings, striking out five and walking one.

Drew Pomeranz (2-6, 6.08 ERA) is the likely starter in Game 4 for Boston, while Los Angeles is likely to go with Rich Hill (11-5, 3.66). Keep an eye on news and social media if different starting pitchers are announced.

MLB Betting Trends

Boston

The Red Sox are 14-3 in their last 17 World Series games. The over is 16-6-1 in the last 23 Boston games on grass.

Los Angeles

The Dodgers are 18-5 in their last 23 home games. Los Angeles is 4-9 in the last 13 meetings.

Prediction:

Two tired pitching staffs and Pomeranz on the mound after a brutal regular season. Expect the Red Sox offense to wake up some and the Dodgers to take advantage of Boston’s starter. I think the safest play on the board is the over, although if you want to pay up to bet on LA I’m certainly not going to talk you out of it. Look for a lot more offense in this one than last night.
