The Chiefs are laying a touchdown on the road Sunday versus the Lions at 1:00 p.m. ET. Does the value lie with Detroit or will Kansas City once again put money in the pockets of backers?

Public Betting Trends

According to our NFL Football Public Betting Chart page, the Chiefs are receiving 70% of the betting tickets from online sportsbooks.

Kansas City Chiefs Fantasy Spin

NFL Network’s James Palmer reports LeSean McCoy (ankle) is “good to go” for Week 4’s game against the Lions. McCoy re-injured his ankle last week, but Shady said he felt better during this week’s set of practices than he did two weeks ago. McCoy should draw the start in Week 4 as long as he doesn’t suffer a setback in pre-game warm-ups with Damien Williams (knee) out. Darrel Williams (and to a lesser extent sixth-round rookie Darwin Thompson) will mix in behind McCoy, who is a risk/reward RB2 with plenty of upside as the back on a team with the highest team total (31.0) of the week.

Detroit Lions Fantasy Spin

MLive’s Kyle Meinke reports that Matthew Stafford (hip, questionable) is expected to play Sunday. Meinke stated, “People I’ve talked to say they’d be shocked if Matthew Stafford didn’t start on Sunday. He tweaked the hip but it’s not expected to impact his availability against KC.” Stafford wasn’t listed on the injury report until Friday, when he was limited in practice. He hasn’t missed a game since 2010.

NFL Betting Trends

Kansas City

The Chiefs are 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings between these two teams while the favorite has also covered in five of the previous six meetings.

Detroit

The home team is a near-perfect 4-1 against the spread in the last five meetings between these two teams.

Prediction

The Lions were going to have trouble slowing down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City offense anyway, but Detroit could really struggle if corner Darius Slay (hamstring) either can’t play or is limited. Slay is one of the more underrated corners in the league and often shadows opponents’ No. 1 receiver. If Slay’s hamstring injury limits him, then Mahomes will use Sammy Watkins, Demarcus Robinson and Mecole Hardman to light up the Lions’ secondary for big plays. I don’t love laying a touchdown on the road but I’ll gladly make the exception with the Chiefs, who seemingly cover or come close to covering every week with Mahomes under center. With Stafford banged up, this is any easy decision. Hopefully Kansas City’s improving defense comes to play.
