The Reds rocked Cardinal pitching on Friday night at Busch Stadium but will Saturday’s matinee matchup fall under the total? With rain in the area, these NL Central rivals are scheduled to play at 2:15 p.m. ET.

Public Betting Trends

According to our MLB Public Betting Chart page, 71% of the betting tickets are on the Cardinals to beat the Reds on the moneyline.

Cincinnati Reds Fantasy Spin

Jose Iglesias is not in the starting lineup for the Reds against the Cardinals on Saturday. Iglesias has been hitting well of late but he will get the day off. Jose Peraza will move over to shortstop and Derek Dietrich will draw a start at the keystone. Tyler Mahle will toe the rubber. Iglesias is 8-for-19 in his last five games while playing his usual brand of sparkling defense in his first season with the Reds.

St. Louis Cardinals Fantasy Spin

Matt Carpenter went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and a run scored in a loss to the Reds on Friday. Both hits were singles. He was the only Cardinal to net multiple knocks as they got blown out by the Reds. Carpenter got off to a very bad start last year and is slumping to begin this year as well, although it isn’t quite as bad this time around. He has a .226 batting average with three home runs and five RBI. He has scored 16 runs so it isn’t all bad. This guy is a proven hitter though, so fantasy owners should not give up on him or they will miss out on an inevitable extended hot streak.

MLB Betting Trends

Cincinnati

The Reds are 1-8 in Tyler Mahle’s last nine starts overall and are winless over his last five road outings.

St. Louis

The Cardinals are 20-10 in their last 29 games versus the Reds overall.

Prediction:

Dakota Hudson will start for the Cardinals today and while he has had issues with walks to start the season, his HR/FB rate is a ridiculous 53% to start the year. That will come down and when it does, he should be able to pitch deeper into games. Meanwhile, Mahle has pitched well to start the year and while the Cardinal offense has been red-hot of late, they also struggled in an exploitable matchup last night with Anthony DeSclafani. While Saturday’s Rays-Red Sox matchup has sneaky over potential, I feel like Reds-Cards has sneaky under potential.

The Pick: Reds/Cardinals UNDER 9
