Indians officially eliminated

Cleveland suffered an 8-2 loss Friday night at Washington to see its postseason hopes dashed. Ryan Flaherty led the Indians as he finished 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI to lead the way. Mike Freeman was 1-for-3 with a double. Greg Allen ended the game 1-for-3 with a run. Nick Goody took the loss as he allowed four earned runs on two hits with no strikeouts and two walks over two-thirds of an inning. Adam Plutko gets the start today for the Indians as he enters with a 7-4 record, 4.25 ERA and 1.22 WHIP plus 75 strikeouts over 108 innings.

Nats win sixth straight

Playoff-bound Washington kept rolling Friday night with an 8-2 home victory over Cleveland to improve to 91-69 overall and 48-31 at home. Gerardo Parra helped lead the Nationals offense as he went a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Trea Turner was 1-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Asdrubal Cabrera finished 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit two-run double plus a run scored. Austin Voth notched the win as he allowed two earned runs on two hits with five strikeouts and no walks over six innings. Patrick Corbin will start today for Washington as he comes in with a 14-7 record, 3.05 ERA and 1.16 WHIP plus 230 strikeouts over 197 2/3 innings pitched.

MLB Betting Trends

The Indians are 4-1 in their last five road games versus a left-handed starter. Cleveland is 0-4 in its last four interleague road games.

The Nationals are 4-0 in their last four home games versus a right-handed starter. Washington is 4-1 in its last five interleague games.

Does anyone really expect the Indians to show up here? If they didn’t when they had something to play for, I can’t imagine the effort will be fantastic today. Washington can clinch home-field in the NL Wild Card Game with a win and while I rarely play the runline with home teams, I’m making an exception here. This has the makings of a very one-sided affair.
