The Los Angeles Clippers have looked like arguably the best team in the NBA over the past six weeks, and tonight they get to pounce on a short-handed Portland Trail Blazers squad.

The Blazers will be without superstar Damian Lillard and starting center Jusuf Nurkic tonight, leaving them at a considerable deficit out of the gate. Is said deficit fairly represented by the large spread they face?

Find out who has the NBA betting edge with our Clippers vs. Trail Blazers picks and predictions for Tuesday, April 20.

Betting trend to know

Clippers are 15-5-1 in their last 21 games overall. Find more NBA betting trends for Clippers vs. Trail Blazers.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

Damian Lillard is out for this game, which is one of the single-biggest swinging variables in the sports betting realm. Dame is an omnipotent offensive threat, capable of keeping the Blazers in a game against pretty much any opponent, and god would they need him against the Clippers in present form.

L.A. is definitely peaking at the right time. It has won eight of its past nine games (with Kawhi Leonard sitting for four) and 14 of its past 17—during a scheduling stretch that offered only a fingerful of gimmes.

So, even if Kawhi or Paul George is a late scratch for this one (which could be possible given Portland’s wounded status—keep an eye on the injury reports!), fading the Clippers seems fairly foolish. Their whole roster is clicking right now, and they have the defensive chops to contain CJ McCollum and Norman Powell while still getting complementary scoring.

As noted above, L.A. is 15-5-1 ATS in its last 21 games, and it’s going to take a lot more than a crippled Blazers squad (also without starting center Jusuf Nurkic) for us to fade that kind of momentum.

If Leonard and George both suit up, this is a slam-dunk bet, but we like it even with one sitting. The Clippers have an average victory margin of 10.88 points in their past eight wins—again, without Leonard for half of them. Back them again without thinking twice.

PREDICTION: Clippers -7.0 (-110)

Over/Under pick

The Clippers have heavily belied their slow pace (27th in NBA) of late, still operating with peak efficiency as the NBA’s top-rated offense. As a result, they’ve averaged 119.5 points over their past eight games.

Looking back at L.A.’s last 20 or so games, it only seems to hit the Under against poor-scoring teams that it blows out or really tough defensive squads—and Portland firmly falls outside both of those categories.

The Blazers have slipped scoring-wise the past little bit, but are still an awful defensive squad (29th in NBA) that knows they have zero chance of winning anything but a shootout tonight. Look for them to go all-in on an offensive effort and drive both pace and scoring in this matchup.

With Lillard playing, it wouldn’t be too ambitious to field a total well into the 230s, and with this line having been bet down significantly since opening, we feel confident in backing an Over.

PREDICTION: Over 223.5 (-110)
