Georgia 2018-19 Betting Preview

College Football National Championship Odds 6/11/18 Georgia Bulldogs

After nearly winning the national championship last season and then finishing with the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation, the Georgia Bulldogs appear poised for big things again in 2018-19. Here’s a look at their national title odds for the upcoming season.

Georgia Bulldogs National Championship Odds

According to oddsmakers, Georgia has 7/1 odds to win the national championship this upcoming season. Even though they share the SEC with the defending champion Alabama Crimson Tide, 7/1 still holds plenty of value for bettors. The Dawgs are easily the favorites to win the SEC East again this season and they proved even in defeat this past season that they’re not intimated by the Tide.

The Biggest Question for 2018

It’s hard to find one, honestly. Depth along the defensive line and secondary is probably the biggest concern for UGA, but it feels like we’re nitpicking. The Dawgs do have to replace three first-round draft picks, two of the program’s top three all-time leading rushers, and eight defensive starters from the national title game. Still, Kirby Smart has already proven that he is a shrewd recruiter and he has a handful of five-star recruits ready to help fill the void in 2018.

How the Schedule Shakes Out

Georgia is likely to be favored in each of its 12 regular season games in 2018. The Dawgs due travel to Baton Rouge to face LSU on October 13, which represents their toughest road trip. South Carolina in Week 2 and Missouri in Week 4 are worth noting, although Georgia is more talented than both of those SEC programs.

Auburn will be a challenge, but Georgia faces the Tigers at home this year, and the annual Florida game in Jacksonville is always ripe with drama. Other than that, the Bulldogs could certainty remain unscathed heading into the playoffs next season.

Outlook

As previously mentioned, 7/1 represents a ton of value for bettors. This team took Alabama to overtime in the national championship last year and if it didn’t suffer an egregious breakdown in the secondary during overtime it might have won. Fromm is a stud and Smart is likely to get dual-threat backup Justin Fields some snaps throughout the season. D’Andre Swift will be called upon to replace Nick Chubb and Sony Michel but don’t forget he was also the leading rusher in the SEC championship game thanks to a 64-yard touchdown run. All the pieces are in place for UGA to make a serious run again this season. I wouldn’t talk anyone out of laying the 7/1 odds, even with ‘Bama as powerful as ever.
