Story leads offensive effort

Colorado shortstop Trevor Story went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, a run and two RBIs Wednesday night in the 7-2 win at the Phillies. It ended a five-game losing skid for the Rockies. After scoring one run in the first inning, a five-run fourth by Colorado broke it open. Charlie Blackmon went 2-for-5, while Nolan Arenado walked twice while scoring once and driving in one. Carlos Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs. Gerardo Parra finished 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Ian Desmond added a 2-run homer in four at-bats. Tyler Anderson gave up one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts and no walks over seven innings to record the win.

Valentin has three-hit night

Jesmuel Valentin finished Wednesday’s game 3-for-4 with two doubles and a solo home run to contribute much of the Phillies offense. Jorge Alfaro added a solo home run. Nick Pivetta took the loss as he gave up six earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and three walks over five innings to suffer the loss.

German Marquez (4-6, 4.79 ERA) draws the start today for the Rockies, while the Phillies counter with Vincent Velasquez (4-7, 4.95).

MLB Betting Trends

Colorado

The Rockies are 5-1 in their last six road games vs. a team with a winning record. Colorado is 5-2 in Marquez’ last seven road starts.

Philadelphia

The Phillies are 5-2 in their last seven Thursday games. Philadelphia is 3-7 in its last 10 games overall.

Prediction:

Neither starting pitcher in this game has pitched all that well lately, but both have shown the ability to bounce back from poor starts with a strong one. Colorado’s offense looked right at home last night and I think it gets to Velasquez again today. I have a little more faith in Marquez slowing down the Phillies offense, which has struggled as of late. Velasquez was blasted for 10 earned runs over 3 2/3 innings in a home loss to the Brewers his last start. I’m not convinced he can fully wipe away the residue of a start that rose his ERA from 3.82 to 4.95. I’m going to go with the Rockies here.
