Rockies’ struggles continues

Colorado lost a third straight game Thursday night as it dropped its series opener at San Diego by a count of 9-3. Charlie Blackmon paced the Rockies offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and two runs scored. Trevor Story was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Ryan McMahon, Yonathan Daza and Tony Wolters all went 2-for-4. Jon Gray suffered the loss as he surrendered seven runs (three earned) on six hits over 5 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking two. Kyle Freeland draws the start tonight as he enters with a 3-9 record, 7.24 ERA and 1.61 WHIP with 67 strikeouts over 82 innings pitched.

Tatis Jr. helps power Padres to win

San Diego rolled to a 9-3 home victory over Colorado Thursday night to improve to 53-61 overall and 26-30 at home. Fernando Tatis Jr. led the Padres offense as he went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Manuel Margot finished 1-for-1 off the bench with a solo home run and two runs scored. Luis Urias ended the game 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Matt Strahm earned the win in relief as he gave up two hits with three strikeouts and no walks over two innings pitched. Cal Quantrill gets the start tonight for San Diego as he comes in with a 4-3 record, 3.57 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 52 strikeouts over 63 innings pitched.

MLB Betting Trends

The Rockies are 5-1 in the last six Freeland starts on Fridays. Colorado is 3-12 in its last 15 games versus the NL West.

San Diego

The Padres are 3-7 in the last 10 Quantrill starts. San Diego is 3-10 in its last 13 home games.

With Colorado struggling so much and having its statistically worst pitcher on the mound tonight, I can’t endorse a bet on the visitors. San Diego has been in good shape offensively lately and Quantrill has turned into a reliable arm in his rookie season. I’m taking the Padres to get the win as the favorites in this spot.
