Detroit Tigers Fantasy Spin

Jordan Zimmermann was hit hard in a loss to the White Sox, surrendering five runs on six hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work. The 32-year-old hurler punched out four while also issuing four free passes on the night. The White Sox scratched out single runs in the first and fifth innings, but broke the game open with a five-run uprising in the seventh that started when Zimmermann allowed three of the first four hitters to reach. He has now struggled in each of his last three starts and will carry an unsightly 4.94 ERA and 1.21 WHIP into a difficult matchup against the Red Sox in Boston on Wednesday.

Boston Red Sox Fantasy Spin

Eduardo Nunez (back) could begin a rehab assignment in the next few days. Nunez has missed the last week of action with a mid-back strain but resumed workouts a couple days ago and “took, like, 300 swings yesterday,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday. He could be activated before the end of the month if all goes well.

MLB Betting Trends

Detroit

The Tigers have won just six times in Jordan Zimmermann’s last 19 starts.

Boston

The Red Sox are 1-4 in Rick Porcello’s last five starts but are 5-2 in his last seven outings at home.

Prediction:

These two starting pitchers have been profitable when it comes to helping bettors cash the over. In Zimmermann’s last 12 starts overall, the over is 8-3-1. The over is also 4-1 in Porcello’s last five home starts and is a perfect 4-0 in his last four outings overall. With the way Boston’s bats came alive on Wednesday night at Fenway, the over looks like a good bet again on Thursday, especially with the way Zimmermann was hit hard in his last start.

The Pick: Tigers/Red Sox OVER 9.5
