Giants vs. Cowboys, 9/8/19 NFL Week 1 Betting Predictions & Odds

NFC East rivals square off in Big D today when the Cowboys host the Giants at 4:25 p.m. ET. Will the rebuilding Giants post an ATS win or will the Cowboys roll as a home favorite?

Game Snapshot

475 New York Giants (+7) at 476 New York Giants (-7); O/U 44.5

AT&T Stadium, Dallas, TX

Public Betting

According to our NFL Public Betting Chart page, the Giants are receiving 59% of the betting tickets as a 7-point underdog over the Cowboys.

New York Giants Fantasy Spin

SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano reports the Giants plan to start Eli Manning for as long as the team is in the playoff race. Manning’s job security has been under fire with Daniel Jones shining in the preseason. The Giants remain committed to him for now, but Manning’s leash will be short if he’s not winning games. It’s hard to see a Manning rebound on a downgraded supporting cast that will be without Golden Tate for the first month. Jones is a good bet to make rookie-year starts.

Dallas Cowboys Fantasy Spin

Updating an earlier report, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport expects Ezekiel Elliott to log 20-25 snaps against the Giants in Week 1. This conflicts with previous reports from Jason La Canfora and Jordan Raanan, who both suggested Zeke would see closer to his usual workload on Sunday. It would make sense for the Cowboys to ease Elliott in coming off a five-week stint in Cabo, but apparently he hasn’t missed a beat in practice this week and appears to be in excellent shape after spending the summer training with Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk. The Cowboys don’t want to risk a soft-tissue injury to their prized workhorse, but if the game is close, it’s hard to envision Elliott taking a backseat to Tony Pollard in crunch time. Even with conflicting reports on his usage, Elliott still belongs in all fantasy lineups as a locked-and-loaded RB1.

New York Betting Trends

The Giants are a perfect 7-0 against the spread in their last seven road games and are 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games overall.

Dallas Betting Trends

The Cowboys are 4-0 against the number in their last four games versus NFC East opponents and are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games overall.

Prediction

The Giants are winless against the spread in their last four games versus the Cowboys and I don’t see how they keep pace today. Even if Elliott doesn’t see a full work load, the Cowboys have enough weapons to push the pace and eventually let their defense feast on Eli once they have a lead. The Giants aren’t as bad as what some have made them out to be but they’re still bad enough to lose by a touchdown-plus on the road against a Dallas team that should be hyped in front of the home crowd.
