Against the spread (ATS) pick

Iowa is coming off an 82-71 loss to Illinois in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament. The Hawkeyes are 21-8 SU this season, are currently the No. 8 ranked team in the latest AP Top 25 poll, and are among the NCAA Tournament favorites with +2,000 March Madness odds. They’ve been less than impressive at covering the spread, however, going just 5-9-1 ATS in their last 15 games.

Grand Canyon is coming off a 74-56 rout over New Mexico State in the WAC Tournament finals. Blowout wins are nothing new for the Antelopes, who are 17-6 SU this season with 14 of those victories coming by double digits.

Grand Canyon has been very efficient on both ends of the floor, shooting 47 percent from the field against Division 1 opponents while holding them to a shooting percentage of just 38.9. The Antelopes also looked very impressive against bigger schools earlier in the season. They defeated Nevada 87-77, lost to Arizona State by a single point, and were neck-and-neck with Colorado until the Buffs pulled away in the last five minutes.

Iowa has a high-powered offense that ranks fourth in the country in scoring with 83.8 points per game. The Hawkeyes are led by Naismith Player of the Year favorite Luka Garza who is averaging 23.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

That said, this might be a rare matchup where Garza faces off against a center bigger than him. The Antelopes’ best player is 7-foot, 270-pound Asbjorn Midtgaard, who transferred from Wichita State in the offseason. Besides looking and sounding like a Viking hero, Midtgaard leads the team with 14 ppg on 70.6 percent shooting, while grabbing 9.9 rebounds per contest. The Antelopes’ second-best player is actually another big man, 6-foot-10 Italian Alessandro Lever, who averages 13.3 ppg and 5.4 rpg.

With how well Grand Canyon matches up against Iowa inside, and the Antelopes’ competitive performances against Power Six opponents, take the underdogs with the points.

PREDICTION: Grand Canyon +15 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

The Hawkeyes put up plenty of points but oddsmakers have been setting their Over/Under totals a bit too high lately. Iowa is 9-2 to the Under in its last 11 games. While the Hawkeyes aren’t known for their defense, holding foes to 72.1 ppg on 41.2 percent shooting is pretty impressive, especially when you consider the quality of teams they face in the Big Ten.

The Antelopes, meanwhile, are very tough on the defensive end of the floor, ranking ninth in the country in scoring defense against Division 1 foes with just 61.6 ppg. They also play at a very slow pace, ranking outside the Top 300 in adjusted tempo, according to KenPom.

With Grand Canyon cashing the Under in eight of its previous 11 contests, back the Under again.

PREDICTION: Under 145 (-110)

Team Total Pick

As good as the Hawkeyes are on the offensive end of the floor, their team total of 79.5 for Saturday seems a tad too high. Keep in mind that they have scored more than 77 points in just one of their previous eight games, a contest against a fast-paced and defensively incompetent Nebraska team.

Now Garza will be tangling with a pair of powerful big men while the Antelopes will be trying to slow down the pace of the game with their methodical, half-court brand of basketball. Take the Under on Iowa’s team total.

PREDICTION: Team Total Iowa Under 79.5 (-110)
