Altuve, Reddick power Astros

Houston posted a 4-1 victory at New York Monday night in Game 3 of the ALCS to take a 2-1 series lead. Gerrit Cole threw seven shutout innings to notch the win as he gave up four hits with seven strikeouts and five walks. Roberto Osuna threw a perfect ninth inning with no strikeouts to record the save. Jose Altuve helped pace the Astros offensive as he finished 2-for-5 with a solo home run plus two runs scored. Josh Reddick was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Yuli Gurriel ended the game 2-for-4 with a walk and a run. Houston has not yet announced its Game 4 starting pitcher as of this writing.

Torres provides only offense

New York fell by a score of 4-1 at home Monday against Houston to drop to a 2-1 deficit in the best-of-7 ALCS. Gleyber Torres ended the game 1-for-2 with an eighth inning solo home run to break up the shutout plus two walks. D.J. LeMahieu finished 2-for-5, while Edwin Encarnacion was 1-for-4 with a double. Luis Severino took the loss as he gave up two earned runs on five hits over 4 1/3 innings, striking out six and walking three. The Yankees have not announced their starting pitcher for Game 4 as of this writing.

MLB Betting Trends

Houston

The Astros are 9-3 in their last 12 road games. Houston is 6-11 in its last 17 playoff road games.

New York

The Yankees are 9-3 in their last 12 playoff home games. New York is 54-18 in its last 72 home games.

Prediction:

The pitching situations are in the air, although Yankees manager Aaron Boone has stated it will be a bullpen day. Someone like Chad Green might be given a couple innings at the start and the Yankees plan to approach it similar to how the Rays have had so much success. Houston is also undecided, but it might go a different route in starting a veteran such as Wade Miley and going with someone like rookie Jose Urquidy eary if Miley isn’t having success. While Miley struggled mightily in September, he had a strong season as a whole and can typically keep the ball down. If the baseballs are indeed less juiced in the playoffs, he could be a decent streaming pitching option. But even so, I like New York keeping the Astros off balance all game with a number of pitchers. When the bullpen played a big role in Game 2 of the ALCS, they threw shutdown baseball until the 11th. I’m going to bank on another strong performance by the Yankees bullpen tonight.
