Public Betting Trends

According to our NFL Football Public Betting Chart page, the Texans are receiving 55% of the betting tickets from online sportsbooks.

Houston Texans Fantasy Spin

DeAndre Hopkins caught just 5-of-8 targets for 40 yards in the Texans’ 13-12, Week 2 win over the Jaguars. Hopkins didn’t catch a pass in the second half. He was wrapped up in Jalen Ramsey’s coverage all day, and the Texans barely survived this one. Hopkins’ 40 yards actually tied Will Fuller for the team lead in receiving. Hopkins gets another tough battle with Casey Hayward when Houston visits the Chargers in Week 3. Still, Week 2 will likely go down as Hopkins’ worst game of the season.

Los Angeles Chargers Fantasy Spin

Austin Ekeler rushed 17 times for 66 yards and one score, sprinkling in six catches for 67 yards through the air in the Chargers’ Week 2 loss to the Lions. While Melvin Gordon’s holdout lingers, Ekeler’s simply amassed 29/124/2 rushing and 12/163/2 receiving through the first two weeks of the season. Ekeler actually left points on the table in this one, having a 20-plus yard touchdown scamper negated for offensive holding before later coughing up a goal line carry at the one-yard line. Justin Jackson (7/59) was involved for a few big runs behind Ekeler, but the latter has an obvious stranglehold on this offense as it continues to run through him (rather than around him). He’s become a matchup-proof RB1 in PPR leagues and should be treated as such against the Texans in Week 3.

NFL Betting Trends

Houston

The over is 4-0 in the Texans’ last four road games and is 5-1 in their last six games when facing a conference opponent.

Los Angeles

The under is 7-1 in the Chargers’ last eight games played in Week 3 and is 5-2 in their last seven home games.

Prediction

The Chargers had two touchdowns wiped off the board last Sunday in Detroit because of penalties but it’s not as if they moved the ball effectively on other drives. On the other side, DeShaun Watson and Co. continue to be hampered by poor play from their offensive line. With the way the Chargers can get after the quarterback, it could be another long day for Watson on Sunday. With the total sitting at 49, the number is too high given the offensive struggles that were on display for both of these teams last week.

NFL Week 3 Prediction: Texans/Chargers UNDER 49
