Martinez fed up with Red Sox

MLB Futures Odds: J.D. Martinez fed up with the Red Sox? 2/7/18

Is free agent slugger J.D. Martinez ready to move on from the idea of becoming a Boston Red Sox?

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Martinez “is telling people that he is fed up with the Red Sox’s inflexibility and would rather sign with another club.” Rosenthal notes that this could just be posturing on the part of Martinez and his agent Scott Boras, who have both become frustrated by the lack of action when it comes to the open market. Martinez reportedly has a five-year, $125 million offer on the table from the Red Sox.

Martinez is said to be seeking a contract worth $200 million after racking up 45 home runs and 104 RBI in just 119 games last summer between the Tigers and Diamondbacks. Boston has been the main team linked to Martinez this winter but much like free agency as a hole, there has been zero movement.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book YouWager, the Red Sox currently have 14/1 odds to win the World Series next year. Their biggest rival, the Yankees, are 6/1 co-favorites to win it all next season. The defending World Series champion Astros are also 6/1, as are the National League pennant winners the Dodgers.

Continuing with the current odds, the Cubs, Indians and Nationals are 8/1, respectively, to win the World Series. The Angels and Mets are 20/1, respectively, while the Cardinals are 22/1. The Brewers, Twins, Giants and Blue Jays are all 30/1, respectively, while the DIamondbacks and Rockies are 35/1, respectively, to win it all.
