Valspar Championship 2021 favorites: JT and DJ lead the way

Justin Thomas is the +800 betting favorite to win the Valspar Championship. The No. 2 player in both the FedEx Cup and Official World Golf Rankings, Thomas won THE PLAYERS Championship in March, but then followed that up with a T42 at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and most recently a T21 at the Masters.

The No. 1 player in the OWGR, Dustin Johnson, is second on the odds board at +1,000. Despite being the top-ranked player in the world, Johnson hasn’t played like it recently, missing the cut at August, followed by a T13 at the RBC Heritage—his best finish in his last five events.

Patrick Reed, coming off a T8 at the Masters, is third at +1,600, while Corey Conners (+2,000) is fourth and Paul Casey — two-time defending champion at this event — is tied with Viktor Hovland for fifth on the odds board at +2,200.

How to bet on PGA Tour odds

The most popular way to bet on golf is by simply picking the winner, which is also referred to as an outright. There are plenty of other ways to wager, however. Some of the more popular markets include head-to-head betting, where sportsbooks pair up two golfers and you simply choose who you think will have the lower score over the course of the weekend or for one round only. Similarly, there are also 3-way betting markets (choose the best golfer among three choices) and group betting (choose the best golfer amongst a group of players).

Other ways to wager include Top-5/Top-10/Top-20 finish, top golfer by nationality, to make the cut/to not make the cut, and the leader after each round. Then, of course, there’s the popular prop bet of whether or not there will be a hole in one at the tournament.
