Moneyline pick

Vegas entered this season as a Stanley Cup favorite and has done nothing to dissuade that notion, sitting atop the West Division with a 23-8-1 record while ranking third in the NHL in goal differential. This is a deep and experienced squad that plays very well on both ends of the ice.

Vegas has an excellent Top-6 group of forwards led by Max Pacioretty (18 goals and 33 points in 30 games) and Mark Stone (39 points in 31 games), while Shea Theodore anchors the blueline. The Knights are ninth in the league in scoring with 3.25 goals per game while ranking second in goals allowed with just 2.28, thanks in large part to the terrific goaltending tandem of Marc-Andre Fleury and Robin Lehner.

Los Angeles has been excellent on special teams, ranking in the Top 8 on both the powerplay and the penalty kill, but has struggled at even strength. The Kings rank just 24th in the league in goals for per 60 minutes at 5v5 hockey, while ranking 20th in GA/60.

The Kings have lost seven of their last eight games on the road. That’s bad news against the Knights, who have been practically unbeatable at home, going 13-2-1 this season at T-Mobile Arena. That said, the Knights have only covered on the -1.5 puckline in three of their last 12 home contests, so back them on the regulation moneyline.

PREDICTION: Three-way Moneyline Vegas (-129)

Over/Under pick

Fleury has been outstanding this season, going 17-7 with a 2.06 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. But after starting both games of the previous series against Colorado, he might be due for a rest.

Lehner is still trying to get back to an even timeshare after missing more than a month with an upper-body injury. While still a strong option between the pipes, Lehner hasn’t looked as good as Fleury this year – or as fantastic as he looked last season – sporting a 2.55 GAA with a .898 save percentage through seven starts.

The Kings also have a goalie tandem with longtime veteran Jonathan Quick and young Cal Petersen. Petersen has impressed this season, posting a 2.54 GAA, but he’s coming off a rough outing against San Jose last Wednesday where he surrendered four goals on 28 shots.

On the other hand, Quick has struggled this season, going 6-6-2 with a 2.91 GAA and a save percentage of .898. And the L.A. defense hasn’t been giving much help to either goalie, with the Kings allowing the fourth-most high danger chances in the league at even strength.

In addition to their strong defensive play, the Knights also have a talented group of forwards and skilled blueliners and have gone 8-3-1 O/U in their last 12 games as a favorite. With the Over also cashing in seven of the last nine meetings in the head-to-head, back it again.
