It should come as no surprise to anyone that Johnson (+800) is the current favorite to defend his Masters crown. Johnson, the No.1 ranked golfer on the PGA circuit, dominated Augusta in 2020, setting a new tournament record (20-under) en route to his first green jacket. While he’s no longer running away as the favorite, he’s been in the top spot since Masters odds were released.
Bryson DeChambeau has closed the gap and follows Johnson at +900 odds. He was a disappointing T34 at the 2020 Masters but will be entering with momentum after securing a big victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March and then finishing T3 at The Players Championship.
John Rahm, who finished T7 at last year’s Masters and is the OWGR’s No. 3 golfer, is third, tied with Justin Thomas, at +1,100 odds. Thomas moved into the OWGR No. 2 spot after winning The Players Championship.
Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka are next at +1,200 odds.
Of course, it wouldn’t be Masters betting if we didn’t mention the five-time Augusta champion, Tiger Woods. Woods was +5,000 in 2021 Masters odds, but he was pulled from the odds board following his car crash on February 23.
Here’s what Tiger’s odds were to win the Masters prior to Round 1 of his five victories at Augusta National:

Note that no pre-tournament betting favorite has won the Masters this decade. Schwartzel was the biggest longshot to win when he surprised the golfing world back in 2011. Most recent winners fall in the +1,000 – +3,000 range.
There also hasn’t been a repeat champion at the Masters since Tiger Woods won back-to-back tournaments in 2001 and 2002. Only three golfers since 2000 have won the event twice in three years (or less): Woods, Bubba Watson (2012 and 2014), and Phil Mickelson (2004 and 2006).
Another trend worth noting is the age of recent Masters winner: before Woods won in 2019 at age 43, the previous 13 winners had all been under the age of 40 at the time they won. Dustin Johnson (36) continued that trend in 2020.
The Masters is played annually at hallowed Augusta National in Augusta, Ga. One of the most famous courses in the World, Augusta is a 7,768-yard par-72, featuring Ryegrass fairways and Bentgrass greens.
The private course was established in 1933 and began hosting the Masters the following year. It also began hosting the National Women’s Amateur in 2019.
The purse hasn’t been announced yet for 2021. The 2020 payout, which was unaltered from 2019, was set at $11.5 million. Johnson’s 18 percent share last year amounted to $2 million.
The Masters is the most bet golf event of the year, so naturally, there are many who will be placing their first golf bets on the 2021 tournament. If that happens to be you, we’ve got you covered with our beginner’s guide to how to bet on golf.
The most popular way to bet on golf is by simply picking the winner, which is also referred to as an outright. There are plenty of other ways to wager, however, including top finishes, head-to-head matchups, and plenty of props.
You’ll find Masters betting options at pretty much every online sportsbook in the world. Most sportsbooks will allow you to bet on the winner of the next Masters tournament for most of the year, with odds changing throughout the year due to current form and injuries. Once the Masters field is set, sportsbooks will open more betting markets.
