Damian Lillard is molten-hot and the Blazers have CJ McCollum back in the lineup, which makes them a tall task for short-handed Dallas to tackle.

The Portland Trail Blazers are getting closer to full strength – and are looking more dangerous by the game.

The Blazers put a two-game winning streak on the line Friday night in a pivotal Western Conference NBA betting encounter with the visiting Dallas Mavericks. Portland is looking more like a Top-4 seed in the conference with shooting guard C.J. McCollum back in the fold – but they’ll face a stiff test against a Mavericks team coming off a thorough beating of the formidable L.A. Clippers.

These are our favorite NBA free picks and predictions for Mavericks vs Trail Blazers on March 19.

Against the spread (ATS) pick

Oddsmakers aren’t buying the Blazers’ surge, making them 3.5-point home underdogs in the second of three meetings between the teams. Portland prevailed 121-118 in Dallas on February 14, and the teams will wrap up their season series with a Sunday rematch in Portland.

The Blazers might not be NBA title contenders, but they’re a well-rounded team with a mega-star in Damian Lillard, who is capable of putting up 50 points on any night. McCollum’s return takes pressure off Portland’s other secondary scorers, and the Blazers are getting tremendous defensive efforts from the frontcourt pair of Robert Covington and Enes Kanter.

Dallas is down three forwards, and is barely above .500 SU and ATS on the road this season. Given the roll Portland is on, we like them to win outright – but we’ll gladly take the points.

PREDICTION: Portland +3.5 (-110)

Covers NBA betting analysis

Over/Under pick

Inflated totals are part of the deal when you bet on Portland games – so it’s mildly surprising to see this one set at 227, matching the lowest Trail Blazers number this month. Portland is 5-3 O/U in March despite having seven totals north of 230, though that trend will be tested against the Mavericks, who are 9-2 to the Under in their last 11 outings.

The Mavericks own a Top-10 defense over the past 10 games, and that might give Over bettors pause. But don’t be fooled: these teams have played six straight games with 230+ points scored, and five of those games produced at least 239 points. Portland will look to push the pace, and Dallas will be forced to do the same – and that should mean points aplenty.

PREDICTION: Over 228 (-110)

Player prop pick

For the Mavericks to be able to keep up with the frenetic Trail Blazers, they’ll almost certainly need another elite-level effort from their franchise point guard. Luka Doncic erupted for 42 points in a 105-89 throttling of the Clippers last time out, and had 44 points in defeat the last time Dallas and Portland squared off.

We’re expecting this game to be faster-paced than most the Mavericks have played this season – and that plays right into our choice for this player prop.

PREDICTION: Luka Doncic Over 28.5 Points (-116)
