Thames homers twice to lead way

Milwaukee held off visiting Pittsburgh by a score of 4-3 Sunday afternoon to improve to 86-70 overall and 49-32 at home. Eric Thames helped pace the Brewers offensively as he finished 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Orlando Arcia ended the game 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Keston Hiura was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Gio Gonzalez picked up the win in relief as he allowed one hit with three strikeouts and no walks over 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Josh Hader notched the save as he gave up no runs on one hit plus three strikeouts and no walks across 1 1/3 innings. Adrian Houser draws the start today for Milwaukee as he enters with a 6-7 record, 3.83 ERA and 1.29 WHIP plus 109 strikeouts over 103 1/3 innings pitched.

Reds doubled up by Mets

Cincinnati lost by a score of 6-3 at home Sunday afternoon in its series finale versus New York to drop to 73-83 overall and 41-37 at home. Tucker Barnhart and Kyle Farmer both ended the contest 1-for-4 with a solo home run to help lead the Reds offense. Joey Votto finished 1-for-2 with three walks and a run scored. Trevor Bauer suffered the loss as he allowed five earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and no walks over seven innings. Sonny Gray gets the start tonight for Cincinnati as he comes in with an 11-7 record, 2.80 ERA and 1.09 WHIP plus 199 strikeouts over 170 1/3 innings pitched.

MLB Betting Trends

Milwaukee

The Brewers are 8-1 in their last nine road games. Milwaukee is 1-4 in the last five Houser starts.

Cincinnati

The Reds are 10-1 in the last 11 Gray home starts. Cincinnati is 1-6 in its last seven series openers.

Prediction:

Milwaukee has been on fire this month, but might hit a hiccup here as Gray has been mowing down most teams in his path. Houser is respectable, but I don’t see him outdueling Gray on the road. The Brewers will have their top relievers available, but I don’t see a late lead to protect. I’d rather bank on another Gray gem.
