The Milwaukee Brewers are in a tight NL Wild Card race and also have a chance to make a dent in their four-game NL Central deficit as they travel to the St. Louis Cardinals starting tonight. Can Milwaukee get a key win in the series opener?

Public Betting Information

According to oddsmakers, the Cardinals are a -125 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Brewers are a +115 underdog, while the total is set at 8 runs. As of Friday afternoon, 66 percent of public bets are siding with host St. Louis. Check out our MLB Public Betting Page for the latest updates.

Brewers win seventh straight

Milwaukee won a seventh straight game and its first since the season-ending injury to star Christian Yelich as it prevailed 3-2 at Miami Thursday. Ryan Braun helped pace the Brewers as he ended the game 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Lorenzo Cain was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Mike Moustakas finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Freddy Peralta recorded the win in relief as he struck out three over two perfect innings. Josh Hader notched the save as he struck out two in a spotless inning of work. Adrian Houser draws the start tonight as he enters with a 6-5 record, 3.59 ERA and 1.29 WHIP plus 99 strikeouts over 95 1/3 innings pitched.

Cardinals cruise past Rockies

St. Louis rolled to a 10-3 win at Colorado Thursday afternoon to improve to 82-64 overall and 36-38 on the road. Dexter Fowler led the Cardinals offense as he finished 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks. Rangel Ravelo was 1-for-4 with a solo homer. Marcell Ozuna went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored. Kolton Wong ended the game 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, a walk, two runs and two RBIs. Harrison Bader was 1-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored. Miles Mikolas picked up the win as he gave up three earned runs on five hits over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Adam Wainwright will start tonight as he enters with an 11-9 record, 4.16 ERA and 1.40 WHIP plus 134 strikeout sover 149 1/3 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

Milwaukee

The Brewers are 6-0 in their last six road games. Milwaukee is 1-4 in the last five Houser road starts.

St. Louis

The Cardinals are 5-1 in their last six Friday games. St. Louis is 10-2 in the last 12 Wainwright starts.

Prediction:

The injury to Yelich is devastating to the Brewers and baseball in general. While Milwaukee could get away with his absence at Miami, it will be a lot more difficult in St. Louis. Wainwright’s strikeout rate has gone down lately, but he’s found a way to get the job done and facing a Brewers offense without their top star is going to help him navigate. The Cardinals play their best baseball at home and I think a win is in their cards tonight.
