Cruz homer lifts Twins

Nelson Cruz hit a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the eighth inning Saturday night as Minnesota topped host Kansas City by a score of 4-3. Cruz finished the game 2-for-4 with the solo homer plus a double. Mitch Garver was 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and two runs scored. Willians Astudillo went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Tyler Duffey picked up the win in relief despite giving up two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and no walks over one inning. Taylor Rogers notched his 30th save of the season as he struck out one and walked one in a scoreless frame. Martin Perez draws the start this afternoon as he enters with a 10-7 record, 5.13 ERA and 1.52 WHIP plus 130 strikeouts across 159 2/3 innings pitched.

Soler socks two homers

Kansas City fell by a count of 4-3 at home Saturday night against Minnesota to drop to 58-103 overall and 30-50 at home. Jorge Soler led the Royals offense as he finished 2-for-3 with his 46th and 47th home runs plus a walk and three RBIs. Whit Merrifield ended the game 3-for-4, while Alex Gordon was 2-for-3 plus a walk. Jacob Barnes took the loss as he gave up one earned run on one hit with one strikeout and no walks over one inning. Jorge Lopez gets the start today as he comes in with a 4-9 record, 6.35 ERA and 1.50 WHIP plus 106 strikeouts over 117 2/3 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

Minnesota

The Twins are 24-9 in their last 33 games overall. Minnesota is 7-3 in its last 10 Sunday games.

Kansas City

The Royals are 5-13 in the last 18 Lopez starts. Kansas City is 8-21 in its last 29 Sunday games.

Prediction:

Minnesota looks playoff-ready and it will want to continue its strong play going into the playoffs. While Perez is hittable, he doesn’t give up a lot of home runs and is facing an underwhelming offense. With the Twins likely to provide him with plenty of run support, I like their chances to notch a seventh straight victory.
