Minnesota Twins Fantasy Spin

Mitch Garver finished 4-for-5 with two home runs and three runs scored in the Twins’ lopsided 14-8 win over the Mets on Tuesday. It seemed slightly odd that the Twins trotted out a lineup with Garver hitting fifth against reigning NL Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom, but that goes to show how much we know. Garver snapped deGrom’s 27-inning scoreless streak with a solo homer to center field in the second inning, and an inning later he doubled down with a laser out to left-center. The 28-year-old isn’t even the best-hitting catcher on his own team (that’s Willians Astudillo), nor is he the starter (that’s Jason Castro), but Garver posted a passable .268/.335/.414 line in 102 games last year and is a decent real-life fill-in for the Twins behind the plate.

New York Mets Fantasy Spin

Pete Alonso homered twice, driving in three runs, in a loss to the Twins on Tuesday. Alonso’s prodigious power remains on display, with the first baseman muscling a solo homer to right field in the seventh inning and going the other way again in the ninth for a two-run shot. The 24-year-old has taken major league pitching by storm out of the gates, swatting six doubles to go with five homers and 14 RBI. Alonso is hitting a robust .385/.429/.923 through hist first 10 games in the majors. It seems the Mets were correct in their assessment that he was ready for the show out of spring.

MLB Betting Trends

Minnesota

The Twins are 12-3 in their last 15 games dating back to last season and have won five of their last seven road games.

New York

The Mets have won 20 of their last 26 games following a loss.

Prediction:

This Twins team shocked the baseball masses last night by driving in six runs on eight hits off Jacob deGrom over just four innings. I don’t expect tonight’s game to be high-scoring, however, as the under is 8-3 in Jake Odorizzi’s last 11 starts overall and is 7-3 in his last 10 road outings. The under has also cashed in seven of the previous eight meetings between these two teams in New York and is 5-1 in the last six meetings overall.

The Pick: Twins/Mets UNDER 7.5
