Betting trend to know

Against the spread (ATS) pick

Both of these teams have been awful this season but at least Northwestern finished its regular season relatively strong, winning three straight games to snap a 13-game losing streak. Its first victory in that span came against Minnesota on the road on February 25.

The Golden Gophers ended the season on a sour note, going 0-7 SU and ATS in their last seven games, which included losses against Big Ten cellar-dwellers Nebraska and Penn State.

Injuries to their second and third-leading scorers, Liam Robbins and Gabe Kalscheur, certainly haven’t helped, but even with those starters, Minnesota has struggled offensively, ranking outside the Top 300 schools in the country with a shooting percentage of 39.4.

A big reason for that has been the Golden Gophers’ awful shooting from long range—and their brutal shot selection. Minnesota ranks 50th in the country in 3-pointers attempted per game, but sits just 340th by hitting them at a 28.6 percent clip.

The Wildcats haven’t been great on offense either but they are far more efficient than the Gophers, shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 35.6 percent from deep.

With both teams almost identical when it comes to defensive efficiency and rebounding rate, expect Minnesota’s ice-cold shooting to be the difference in this one and back Northwestern.

PREDICTION: Northwestern -2 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

When these teams met up two weeks ago, they combined for just 126 points in a 67-59 Northwestern victory. Minnesota looked absolutely brutal in that contest, shooting just 37 percent from the field and going 4 for 27 from long range.

That performance was particularly ugly for the Gophers when you consider that they generally play far better offensively at Williams Arena. Away from home, their shooting gets even worse, with Minnesota averaging just 65.6 points per game on 34.6 percent shooting. That doesn’t bode well for the Gophers tonight, with this game taking place on neutral ground in Indianapolis.

Northwestern is 105th in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency, according to KenPom, but ranks a more respectable 44th in adjusted defensive efficiency.

The Wildcats have also gone 5-1 to the Under in their last six games. Expect another ugly shooting performance on Wednesday and take the Under.

PREDICTION: Under 141.5 (-110)
