MLB Prop Bets, Picks and Predictions for April 15

Updated: April 15, 2021

Veteran lefty Rich Hill may have a bit of an ugly ERA at this point, but all that junk he is throwing is creating a lot of swings and misses as he’s recorded 11 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched this season.

The New York Mets are proving that old habits die hard. Jacob deGrom looks unhittable early on during this 2021 MLB season, but the Mets have lost both of his starts. However, that means the return of one of our all-time favorite MLB prop bets.

You guessed it! It’s the return of deGrom Day! This means we are eying the five-inning total when deGrom toes the rubber today against the Philadelphia Phillies. We bring you that and more with our best MLB free prop bets and predictions for Thursday, April 15.

Today’s MLB props and picks

Phillies-Mets Under 3.5 Five Innings (-125)

For those who don’t know, deGrom Day refers to betting the Under first-five inning total whenever Jacob deGrom starts. This was highly profitable a few seasons ago when deGrom like he still is today, looked like the best pitcher in baseball. But what made the bet so successful was that the Mets were just awful at the dish, never giving him any run support. So, this became the best way to bet deGrom starts.

Well, guess what? The Mets are off to a slow start at the dish this season, ranking 25th in scoring, plating just 3.88 runs per game, and the Under first five has cashed in the first two deGrom starts this season.

Thursday afternoon they go up against Phillies’ starter Zach Eflin, who has had a solid start to his 2021 campaign, pitching to a 3.46 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP.

And do you really need any deGrom stats to back this up? Fine. Well, he’s given up one run and struck out 21 batters in 14 innings. There. Happy? Now, he faces a Phillies lineup that is also struggling at the dish, ranking 28th in scoring and one he shut out over six innings allowing just three hits.

Sound the gong! deGrom Day is back!

Ronald Acuna Over 1.5 Total Bases (+115)

Remember yesterday when we said Ronald Acuna was hot? What’s the level up from that? The Atlanta Braves superstar outfielder easily cashed another total bases prop thanks to two huge dingers against the Miami Marlins.

Acuna Jr. has hit safely each of his last eight games. He has seven multi-hit games this season. And has at least one extra-base hit in eight games. The dude is just locked in, cashing the Over 1.5 total bases prop eight times.

Thursday afternoon, he goes up against another Marlins rookie starter in Trevor Rogers. The lefty had a rough go of things in 2020 but is off to a hot start in 2021. But he has struggled with his control a bit, and missing your spots against Acuna is never a recipe for success.

Also, in his lone start against the Braves last season, he allowed five runs on eight hits in just four innings. Acuna went 1-3 with a double and a walk in that game.

The only reason I can think of these odds being like this is that they are expecting Acuna to cool off sooner rather than later. But until he does, let’s happily ride this train at plus money.

Rich Hill Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-130)

We are giving ol’ Dick Mountain some love in today’s MLB prop bets. Rich Hill is now in his 17th MLB season and is still effective at getting outs because the dude is still good at messing up hitters’ timing with changes in velocity and some nasty breaking pitches.

And of course, he has found some new life with the Tampa Bay Rays. The veteran lefty may have a bit of an ugly ERA at this point, but all that junk he is throwing is creating a lot of swings and misses as Hill has recorded 11 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched this season.

Thursday, he goes up against one of the most swing-happy teams in baseball – the Texas Rangers. The Rangers rank second-to-last when it comes to getting punched out, striking out 10.5 times per game. So, we’re betting Dick Mountain reaches the summit on his strikeout prop in this one.

Yesterday’s MLB record: 1-2, -1.17 units
Season MLB betting record: 22-22, -2.22 units
