NBA Sixth Man of the Year odds celebrate the unsung heroes of the hardwood, the guys who lead second units and hold teams together without all the fanfare.

Perhaps never has that been more important than the 2020-21 season, with the NBA facing unprecedented levels of frantic and sudden player unavailability, and the need for bench guys to step up.

As we continue to limp through a bizarre NBA campaign, let’s check out the odds to win NBA Sixth Man of the Year

Favorite to win NBA Sixth Man of the Year

Utah Jazz combo-guard Jordan Clarkson remains a huge favorite in the NBA Sixth Man of the Year odds race at -1,000. Clarkson was a crucial backup scorer after being acquired from the Cavaliers last season and he’s upped the ante this year, averaging 18 points per game for the Jazz and quickly running away with the award as a result.

In second, at +1,600, is Houston Rockets wing Eric Gordon, who has come alive since James Harden’s exit to Brooklyn. Gordon has been one of the lone bright spots for a lifeless Houston team but a recent groin injury is expected to sideline him for the next four to six weeks.

Toronto Raptors center Chris Boucher (+2,000) is third and has an opportunity to rise as a result of Gordon’s injury. The former G-League MVP and DPOY has enjoyed a breakout season, becoming a threat from deep and ranking among the league leaders in blocks per game.

Understanding NBA Sixth Man of the Year odds

Most sportsbooks will display odds in the American format as listed above. We’ll use last season’s Rookie of the Year race as an example:

As last season progressed, with Ja Morant having been a huge favorite, his odds had a minus (-) sign ahead of the number:

This means that a bettor needs to wager $500 to win $100. Other candidates with worse odds would have a plus (+) sign ahead of the number. Early in the season, before any clear favorite is established, betting options will be listed as such:

Here, a bettor stands to profit $650 for every $100 wagered.

If American odds aren’t your thing, simply use our odds converter to switch the odds to decimal or fractional format. Most online sportsbooks also give you the option to change the odds format that you see.

It’s worth noting that, recently, the Sixth Man Award hates big men. Since Antawn Jamison won playing out of position as a small forward on the 2003-04 Dallas Mavericks, only two non-guards (Lamar Odom ’11, Montrezl Harrell ’20) have claimed the trophy.
