Nebraska vs. Iowa, 11/27/20 College Football Week 13 Predictions

Fresh off their rout of Penn State last week on the road, the Iowa Hawkeyes return home to host fellow Big Ten rival Nebraska at 1:00 p.m. ET on Friday. Are 13.5 points too much to lay with the Hawkeyes or is there a better play on the board?

Game Snapshot

147 Nebraska Cornhuskers (+13.5) at 148 Iowa Hawkeyes (-13.5); o/u 53.5

Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, IA

Nebraska Cornhuskers Game Notes

Nebraska redshirt freshman QB Luke McCaffrey completed 15-of-26 passes for 134 yards and three interceptions while also rushing 26 times for 122 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-23 loss to Illinois on Saturday. While McCaffrey (6’2/200) showed incredible rushing ability when he broke containment, his throwing accuracy left much to be desired. On multiple instances, McCaffrey overthrew open receivers when rolling out, spiked short timing throws into the ground, or made bad decisions leading to turnovers. On one interception he got flushed out of the pocket and rather than simply throw the ball out of bounds and reset, tried to force an impossible throw that was picked off. His lack of arm strength accounted for another interception as he floated a pass into coverage that needed to be thrown with more velocity. All-in-all, it was a learning experience for the redshirt freshman signal caller. The Cornhuskers travel to Iowa City next Friday to take on the Hawkeyes.

Iowa Hawkeyes Game Notes

Iowa redshirt sophomore QB Spencer Petras completed 18-of-26 passes for 186 yards in a 41-21 win over Penn State on Saturday. Iowa is a run-first team, anyway, but Petras became even more of a game-manager as the Hawkeyes built a big lead in the first half. That being said, the 6-foot-5, 231-pound quarterback was efficient and able to make a couple of plays down field while leading Iowa to their third consecutive win. Petras will be back under center on Friday against Nebraska.

Nebraska vs. Iowa Betting Prediction

The road team has covered in five of the last seven series meetings between these two teams but I just don’t trust Nebraska. The Cornhuskers are 1-6 against the number in their last seven road games, are 1-7 at the betting window in their last eight games when facing an opponent with a winning record and they’re 3-10 against the spread in their last 13 games overall. On the other side, the Hawkeyes are 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four conference games, are 3-1-1 against the number in their last five home games and are 7-3 at the betting window in their last 10 games when facing an opponent with a losing record.
