New York Giants vs. Detroit Lions, 10/27/19 NFL Predictions & Odds

The Giants have struggled in pass coverage all season and with Kerryon Johnson now on IR, the Lions will likely lean on Matthew Stafford and their passing game when they host New York on Sunday. Will the over cash for bettors this weekend?

Game Snapshot

Public Betting Trends

According to our NFL Football Public Betting Chart page, the Lions are receiving 57% of the betting tickets from online sportsbooks.

New York Giants Fantasy Spin

Sterling Shepard (concussion) has been ruled out for the Giants’ Week 8 matchup against the Lions. Expect Golden Tate and Darius Slayton to again work inside of 2-WR sets. Neither Bennie Fowler nor Cody Latimer cleared even 40% snap rates while rotating as the offense’s No. 3 WR last week. The entire passing game is set up fairly well vs. the Lions’ 15th-ranked defense in pass DVOA that’s allowed the 12th-most PPR per game to the WR position this season.

Detroit Lions Fantasy Spin

Lions CB Darius Slay (hamstring) has been ruled out for the team’s Week 8 matchup against the Giants. Justin Coleman is tentatively expected to take over as the Lions’ No. 1 CB and shadow Golden Tate. Coleman is PFF’s No. 16 highest-graded CB in coverage and truly balled out in his high-profile matchup against Sammy Watkins earlier this season. Still, Tate is talented enough to win against even the league’s best CBs. He’s also seen a fantasy-friendly average of 8.7 targets per game. Treat the NFL’s most-savage touchdown celebrator as a mid-tier WR2 in this #RevengeGame with Sterling Shepard (concussion) still sidelined.

NFL Betting Trends

New York

The under is 4-0 in the Giants’ last four games after allowing less than 250 total yards in their previous game.

Detroit

The under is 6-2 in the Lions’ last eight games overall and is 7-3 in their last 10 conference matchups.

Prediction

The Giants’ pass defense is terrible, surrendering an average of 373 passing yards and eight total passing touchdowns on the road this year. With Johnson now on IR, the Lions will likely lean on their passing game and attack New York’s weak secondary. The Giants are also allowing 8.3 yards per pass, which ranks 29th in the NFL and are 27th in pass defense DVOA according to Football Outsiders. Meanwhile, the Lions traded safety Quandre Diggs to the Seahawks early this week and won’t have Slay. The Giants aren’t good, but they’re also not hapless offensively. The over is 5-0 in the Giants’ last five road games and is 6-2 in their last eight games coming off a loss.

NFL Week 8 Prediction: Giants/Lions OVER 49.5
