New York Mets Fantasy Spin

Pete Alonso went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the Mets’ extra-inning loss to the Giants on Friday. It was a rare off-night for the 24-year-old rookie sensation, but it also served as a microcosm of the entire evening for the Mets, who mustered only three hits combined in the losing effort. They simply had no answer for Giants starter Tyler Beede, who tossed eight shutout frames in this one. Alonso owns a .265/.358/.606 triple-slash line with 60 runs scored, 32 home runs, 72 RBI and one steal in 411 plate appearances this season. That’ll do.

San Francisco Giants Fantasy Spin

Alex Dickerson walked and scored the game-winning run in the 10th inning to lift the Giants to a 1-0 walk-off extra-inning victory over the Mets on Friday. The Giants had nothing going offensively against Mets starter Jacob deGrom, who scattered three hits over seven shutout frames. Dickerson came off the bench to draw a leadoff walk in the 10th inning. He eventually came around to score the winning run on a bizarre fielding error by left fielder Dominic Smith with two outs in the frame. The Giants have been the hottest team in baseball recently, winning 11 of their last 13 games, including a 16-inning marathon in the opener of this four-game series on Thursday night.

MLB Betting Trends

New York

The Mets are 2-8 in their last 10 games when their opponent allowed two runs or fewer in their previous game.

San Francisco

The Giants are 1-5 in Jeff Samardzija’s last six home starts.

Prediction:

The Giants are the hottest team in baseball, winning seven in a row and 16 of their last 21 games overall. They haven’t been all that profitable when Samardzija starts, including posting a 3-14 record in his last 17 outings versus National League East opponents. That said, he has pitched better of late and San Francisco is 4-1 in Samardzija’s last five outings. The Mets, meanwhile, are 12-29 in their last 41 road games and have dropped nine of their last 12 games coming off a loss.

The Pick: San Francisco Giants -141
