A’s shut out on three hits

Oakland was blown out to the tune of 15-0 Monday night at Houston to drop to 84-60 overall and 36-33 on the road. Chad Pinder led the A’s offense as he was 1-for-2 with a double off the bench, while Chris Hermann also finished 1-for-2 off the bench. Khris Davis ended the contest 1-for-2 as well. Mike Fiers took the loss as he surrendered nine earned runs on nine hits with one strikeout and no walks in one-plus inning of work. Tanner Roark gets the start tonight as he enters with a 9-8 record, 3.86 ERA and 1.35 WHIP plus 141 strikeouts over 147 innings.

Astros showcase power again

Houston has now scored a combined 36 runs in its last two games after blasting past visiting Oakland yesterday in a series opener by a score of 15-0. The Astros led 11-0 through two innings and hit an MLB-record six home runs in the first two innings of the game. Michael Brantley helped lead the Astros offense as he ended the game 2-for-3 with a solo home run plus two runs scored. Robinson Chirinos finished 3-for-4 with two homers, two runs and six RBIs. Jose Altuve went a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Alex Bregman finished 1-for-2 with a homer, a walk and three RBIs. Yordan Alvarez ended the contest 2-for-5 with two solo home runs. Zack Greinke picked up the win as he threw six shutout innings with two hits allowed, five strikeouts and no walks. Wade Miley will take the mound tonight for Houston as he comes in with a 13-4 record, 3.35 ERA and 1.26 WHIP plus 134 strikeouts over 156 innings pitched.

MLB Betting Trends

Oakland

The A’s are 22-5 in their last 27 games following a loss. Oakland is 5-2 in its last seven games overall.

Houston

The Astros are 38-15 in their last 53 games overall. Houston is 4-0 in the last four Miley home starts.

Prediction:

Houston basically feels unstoppable at home right now, which obviously isn’t the case because anything can happen in baseball but I’m not sure I want to bet against this team right now. So what am I going to do? Bet against them. Roark keeps the ball in the yard well as a groundball pitcher and it’s not like Oakland is a bunch of chumps as it would win a Wild Card berth if the season ended today. Miley has struggled lately and gave up five earned runs on five hits without even recording an out in his last start at Seattle. I’m taking a flier on the A’s today and I really don’t think it’s the worst play in the world as Houston’s bats have to cool down at some point, right?
