Against the spread (ATS) pick

Oklahoma State is coming off a fantastic performance in an 83-74 win over Baylor. The Bears entered as the No. 2 ranked team in the country but the Cowboys held them to just 39 percent shooting from the field while connecting on 47 percent of their own shots. The Cowboys showed their mettle in crunch time, trailing 65-60 with five minutes left in the game before hitting some clutch shots (from the field and the free-throw line) down the stretch.

Big 12 Player of the Year Cade Cunningham was once again the star of the show for Oklahoma State, with 25 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. The freshman is expected to be the first pick overall in the upcoming NBA draft and is leading the conference in scoring with 19.6 points per game while adding 6.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

The Longhorns had a much easier time getting to this game after Friday’s scheduled opponent, Kansas, withdrew from the tourney after a positive COVID-19 test. On Thursday night they had a tougher task as they edged Texas Tech by a score of 67-66.

Texas has gone an impressive 4-0 SU and ATS in its last four games, but Oklahoma State has been even hotter. The Cowboys are 7-1 SU and 8-0 ATS in their previous eight contests, which includes two wins apiece against Oklahoma and West Virginia, and victories against Texas Tech and Baylor. And their victory against WVU last week came on the road without Cunningham and starting guard Isaac Likekele.

While it’s possible that the Cowboys might come out a bit flat after such a big win, I think it’s exactly the confidence booster this young team needed at this stage of the season. I’m not betting against a squad with this much momentum, especially when they have the most talented player in the country.

PREDICTION: Oklahoma State +1.5 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

Both of these teams can fill up the bucket. Oklahoma State put up 76.2 points per game on 47 percent shooting in conference play, while Texas is averaging 75.1 ppg on 45.2 percent shooting.

Although the Cowboys are very efficient on the defensive end of the floor, holding Big 12 foes to a field-goal percentage of 41.5, they allow those conference opponents to score a generous 73.4 ppg. The culprit? A fast-paced squad that pushes the ball on offense, while their defenders pressure ball-handlers on the other end of the floor.

The Cowboys have gone 6-1 to the Over in their last seven games. They also have a tendency to play higher-scoring contests against quality opponents, going 22-5-1 O/U in their previous 28 contests versus teams with a winning percentage above .600.

The Longhorns’ betting trends also lean to the Over, going above the total in 13 of their last 18 games. Take the Over.

PREDICTION: Over 145 (-110)
