Against the spread (ATS) pick

For those who don’t know at this point, Oregon State was picked to finish dead last in the Pac-12 in the preseason. But the Beavers entered the conference tournament winners of four of its last six games and were 7-1 ATS in its last eight games overall.

Then, the Beavers rattled off three consecutive wins in the Pac-12 Tournament, all as underdogs of five points or more. Then they did it again in the Big Dance, getting 8-points against Tennessee. They are now 11-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall.

Led by Ethan Thompson and Jarod Lucas, the Beavers still had that ice in their veins when it came to shooting the 3-ball in the Pac-12 Tournament, going 10 for 21 from deep against the Volunteers.

But unlike the Vols, Oklahoma State is playing like a team. A team that has a ton of talent to boot. To that point, Cade Cunningham didn’t play overly well against Liberty and the Pokes still covered as 7.5-point favorites, winning 69-60. Avery Anderson III led the way for OK State, putting up 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting.

The Cowboys also get the job done on the defensive end of the floor. They are long and athletic and can make problems for an Oregon State team that lives and dies on the perimeter. Oklahoma State ranks 19th in adjusted defensive efficiency and allows opponents to shoot just 32.2 percent from 3-point range.

On top of that, with the win over Liberty, Oklahoma State proved it can beat a team with a slow tempo and force a team to get uncomfortable and play at its pace. This Beavers team is really fun, but the run ends Sunday, as the favored Pokes cover the spread.

PREDICTION: Oklahoma State -5.5 (-110)

Over/Under pick

Both Oregon State and Oklahoma State cashed the Under in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, but prior to that, they had been on solid Over runs. With a total on the March Madness odds board at 142, oddsmakers are expecting them to get back on track.

Oregon State has upped its scoring to 73.3 points per contest over its last seven games, scoring 70 or more in six of those games. While Oklahoma State was held to 69 points against Liberty, the Beavers rank 98th in adjusted defensive efficiency, and prior to that game, the Pokes averaged 78.6 points over the last 10 games, with the Over going 7-3 in that stretch.

The oddsmakers may be on to something here because, with two hot teams, the Over looks like a good bet at this number.

PREDICTION: Over 142 (-110)

Covers March Madness betting analysis

First half pick

While Oklahoma State has been a dangerous team down the stretch, the Pokes have done most of their damage in the second half of games. That means they have been allowing their opponents to get out to decent starts, giving up an average of 34.8 first-half points in their four postseason games. That includes falling behind 30-27 to Liberty in the Round of 64.

Getting off to good starts is something Oregon State has done well over its underdog run. The Beavers have averaged 32 points per game over their last four games and are a good bet to go Over their first-half team total in this one.

PREDICTION: Oregon State Over 31.5 First Half Team Total (-115)
