Philadelphia Phillies vs. Miami Marlins, 4/14/2019 Predictions & Odds

One day after Bryce Harper and the Phillies put nine runs on the board, it was the Marlins’ turn for an offensive outburst on Saturday, as Miami scored 10 runs in a 10-3 rout. That said, can bettors count on another high-scoring game at Marlins Park on Sunday?

According to our MLB Public Betting Chart page, 71% of the betting tickets are on the Phillies to beat the Marlins on the moneyline.

Philadelphia Phillies Fantasy Spin

Zach Eflin allowed 10 hits and six runs over four innings in a loss to the Marlins on Saturday. If there’s a positive to take out of the start, he was able to strike out four and didn’t walk anyone. Calling that a tiny consolation is an insult to tiny consolations. Eflin was awful against the Marlins, allowing three homers and not fooling the Miami lineup at all on Saturday. It’s disappointing; not just because the right-hander was facing a mediocre group in the Marlins, but because he had pitched so well in the previous two starts. We’ll call this one fluke, but it’s an ugly one. The Rockies come next for Eflin, and fantasy players should be cognizant that it’s in Colorado.

Miami Marlins Fantasy Spin

Austin Dean went 4-for-4 with a homer, triple, five RBI and three runs scored in a 10-3 victory on Saturday over the Phillies. Dean hit his first homer of the season with a runner on off of Zach Eflin in the third inning. He also singled in a run in the second, and the triple brought in two to extend Miami’s lead to 9-0. A sensational outing from Dean, who is one of the better hitting prospects in the Marlins’ system. He’s worth monitoring, but these types of games are outliers for a hitter with below-average hitting skills and slightly above-average power. Heck of a day on Saturday, however.

MLB Betting Trends

The Phillies are 4-1 in Vincent Velasquez’s last five starts versus the Marlins.

The Marlins are 5-2 in their last seven home games against the Phillies following yesterday’s win.

Yesterday I wrote about how bad Miami’s offense is as I took the under 7.5. Then, of course, the Marlins racked up double-digit runs. Following two high-scoring games in a park that usually benefits pitchers, the inclination is to go with the under. But Marlins Park has not been kind to Velasquez, who is 0-2 in four starts and owns a 4.42 ERA over 18 1/3 innings pitched. He’s allowed three home runs in the park and while the Marlins stink, they proved yesterday that they are capable of hitting this Philadelphia pitching staff.

The Pick: Phillies/Marlins OVER 8.5
