Knapp has two-hit night

Philadelphia lost by a score of 7-2 Monday night at Washington to drop to 79-76 overall and 36-41 on the road. Andrew Knapp helped pace the Phillies offensively as he finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Scott Kingery was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk. Bryce Harper ended the game 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Zach Eflin suffered the loss as he gave up five earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and four walks over five innings. The Phillies have yet to announce their starting pitcher for this game as of this writing.

Nats sock three homers

Washington earned a 7-2 home victory Monday night over Philadelphia to improve to 86-69 overall and 43-31 at home. Adam Eaton helped lead the Nationals offense as he went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored. Trea Turner was 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a walk and three runs. Yan Gomes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double. Patrick Corbin notched the win as he gave up one earned run on three hits with six punchouts and four strikeouts over six innings. Joe Ross gets the start this afternoon as he comes in with a 3-4 record, 6.17 ERA and 1.74 WHIP plus 45 strikeouts over 54 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Philadelphia

The Phillies are 13-3 in their last 16 Tuesday games. Philadelphia is 1-4 in its last five road games.

Washington

The Nationals are 5-0 in their last five doubleheader openers. Washington is 5-1 in the last six Ross starts.

Prediction:

Washington has been very good in doubleheader openers, but Ross has been shaky as a starting pitcher this season and the Phillies are still a decent team if still a disappointing one. With Max Scherzer going in the nightcap and the Nats almost to the finish line in clinching a playoff spot, I’m going to bank on them taking the foot off the gas pedal a little bit in the opener.
