According to our MLB Public Betting Chart page, 63% of the betting tickets are on the Nationals to beat the Pirates on the moneyline.

Pittsburgh Pirates Fantasy Spin

Colin Moran blasted a pinch-hit three-run homer in the 10th inning, powering the Pirates to a 6-3 victory over the Nationals on Friday evening in Washington. Moran, who entered the game in place of Jung Ho Kang, fell behind in the count 0-2 before crushing a Matt Grace offering over the wall in right-center. Now slashing .278/.409/.667 with a pair of homers and six RBI on the season, perhaps he should be in line for more playing time over Kang, who is slashing a mere .108/.195/.243 on the season.

Washington Nationals Fantasy Spin

Anthony Rendon clubbed his fifth and sixth home runs of the season, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Nationals past the Pirates in extra innings on Friday night. Rendon tagged Pirates’ starter Trevor Williams for a go-ahead solo shot in the third inning to give the Nationals a 2-1 lead. He then crushed a game-tying blast off of Keone Kela in the eighth inning to force extra innings, but it still wasn’t enough. One of the hottest hitters on the planet at the moment, Rendon is now slashing .426/.481/.957 with six homers and 16 RBI in what has been an exceptional start to the season.

MLB Betting Trends

Pittsburgh

The Pirates are just 1-4 in Chris Archer’s last five starts on the road.

Washington

The Nationals have won 12 of their last 15 games after allowing five runs or more in their previous contest.

Prediction:

Archer (who is currently appealing a five-game suspension for his role in a brawl with the Reds in his last start) tossed five scoreless innings against the Cardinals in his first start but was touched up for three runs on five hits (including two home runs) by the Reds. Despite his rough second outing, I trust him more than Anibal Sanchez, who is switching spots in the rotation with Max Scherzer, who is being pushed back a day after taking a comebacker off his leg. Sanchez surrendered a total of seven runs and 11 hits across 9 2/3 innings in his first two outings of the season. The Pirates lack punch, but they don’t strike out much and put the ball in play a lot. They’re also confident and worth a look as the underdog in this matchup.

The Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates +102
