Starting pitchers

Andrew Kittredge (3-0, 1.54 ERA): While Kittredge is slated to open this game, it’s Ryan Yarbrough that will be working behind him. So, you should view this one as a game that Yarbrough is starting, as he’ll be doing a majority of the work. Yarbrough has been inconsistent to start the 2021 season, as he has allowed one or fewer earned runs in three of his six appearances, but he has given up at least five earned runs in each of the other three.

Shohei Ohtani (1-0, 3.29 ERA): Ohtani hasn’t been eating up innings for the Angels thus far, but the team has won in each of his three starts. Last game, Ohtani allowed four earned runs in five innings of work against the Rangers, but he did have nine strikeouts in that one. This Rays lineup can definitely be extremely dangerous, but Ohtani has ridiculous stuff on the mound. If he can turn in a quality start, the Angels would have a great chance of winning this game.

Betting trend to know

Moneyline pick

The Angels aren’t playing good baseball right now, but they have to be excited about getting out there against Yarbrough. In his career, Albert Pujols has two doubles and two homers off of the lefty, and Mike Trout has also ripped two doubles and taken him yard once. Los Angeles’ offense can really use a big performance from some of its big bats, and this seems like a prime matchup to get them going. Kittredge will likely give the Rays an inning or two of scoreless work, but it’s all systems go after that.

Los Angeles would also appear to have the edge on the mound in this game, as Ohtani is the more likely option of the two to turn in a nice outing here. His fastball looks to be back to where it was before his Tommy John surgery, and the two-way phenom is primed to start helping his team win games on the bump. Ohtani has been a monster at the plate this season, but he has the potential to be just as dominant with his right arm.

If Rendon can come back for Los Angeles, that’d only be an added bonus for a team that is already a good value tonight.

PREDICTION: Angels ML (-126)

Covers MLB betting analysis

Over/Under pick

The Over has hit in each of Tampa Bay’s last three games, and the team is averaging 6.7 runs per game in that span. While Ohtani does have impressive velocity and good movement on his pitches, he has proven to be beatable early in the season. Meanwhile, Yarbrough is always capable of letting up a big number, and the Angels’ best hitters have had success against him in the past.

After last night’s high-scoring game, the Over has hit in six of the last eight meetings between these two teams. The Rays have also gone Over in 11 of their last 13 road games.

PREDICTION: Over 8.5 (-110)
