San Diego Padres Fantasy Spin

Franmil Reyes went 1-for-2 with a solo homer in the Padres’ win over the Diamondbacks on Thursday. Reyes launched a towering 412-foot opposite-field homer — his second round-tripper of the season — off Diamondbacks’ starter Zack Godley in the fourth inning. He also drew a walk in the second and struck out with the bases loaded in the sixth before being removed for a defensive replacement. The 23-year-old slugger possesses prodigious light-tower power, but he’s has gotten off to an extremely sluggish start, hitting .167/.270/.400 across 37 plate appearances. Fantasy owners should be patient with Reyes, since his underlying metrics, which include a .440 expected weighted on-base average (xwOBA), suggest that he’s massively underperformed given the quality of contact he’s made so far.

Arizona Diamondbacks Fantasy Spin

Eduardo Escobar went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer in the Diamondbacks’ loss to the Padres on Thursday. Escobar walloped a game-tying, three-run blast — his first long-ball of the season — off Padres reliever Brad Wieck in the seventh inning. He also drew a pair of walks in the contest. The 30-year-old infielder’s line-drive homer, which barely cleared the fence in left field, capped off a dramatic five-run comeback for the Diamondbacks in the frame. He’s gotten off to a slow start, hitting .220/.304/.360 across 56 plate appearances, but is coming off an impressive 2018 campaign in which he racked up 74 extra-base hits, including a career-high 23 homers.

MLB Betting Trends

San Diego

The Padres are just 6-20 in their last 26 games during the second game of a series.

The Diamondbacks are 5-1 in their last six games when playing the second game of a series.

Last night was a high-scoring game in Arizona and tonight has run-scoring appeal as well. The over is 5-2 in the Padres’ last seven road games and is 5-2 in their last seven games overall. After he was hit hard in a no-decision against the Dodgers, Luke Weaver allowed three runs on five hits over five innings in another no-decision against the Red Sox in his second start of the season. Granted, San Diego doesn’t have the same power as Los Angeles or Boston but the Padres lineup has improved and can run hot, as they showed last night.

The Pick: Padres/Diamondbacks OVER 8.5
