Padres offense sputters

San Diego did not score until the last two innings Tuesday night at New York in a 5-2 defeat. Fernando Tatis Jr. helped lead the Padres offense as he went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. Eric Hosmer ended the game 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Francisco Mejia went 1-for-3 plus a walk. Chris Paddack suffered the loss as he allowed three earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks over five innings. Dinelson Lamet will start today for San Diego as he enters with an 0-2 record, 5.14 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 19 strikeouts over 14 innings pitched.

Cano has magical night

Robinson Cano registered his first-ever three-home run game Tuesday night at home to send New York to a 5-2 victory over San Diego. Cano ended the contest a perfect 4-for-4 with the three home runs and five RBIs. Jeff McNeil finished 2-for-3, while Pete Alonso was 0-for-2 with three walks and two runs scored. Jason Vargas picked up the win as he gave up one hit with eight strikeouts and four walks over six innings. Edwin Diaz notched the save as he allowed one hit with no strikeouts or walks in a scoreless inning of work. Noah Syndergaard draws the start today for the Mets as he comes in with a 6-4 record, 4.47 ERA and 1.26 WHIP with 109 strikeouts over 102 2/3 innings of work.

MLB Betting Trends

San Diego

The Padres are 1-4 in their last five road games. San Diego is 0-6 in the last six Lamet road starts.

New York

The Mets are 4-0 in the last four Syndergaard home starts. New York is 3-9 in its last 12 Wednesday games.

Prediction:

Syndergaard has gotten the job done at home lately and all his excellent starts this season shows he still has it, but finding consistency is the key. Against a Padres team that has struggled on the road and could only muster one hit in six innings against Vargas makes me like Syndergaard a lot today. Lamet is a promising arm, but still trying to settle in after coming back from an arm injury. I like the Mets to grab another win tonight.
