Sharks’ rally falls short

San Jose lost by a count of 4-3 Sunday night in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals at home versus Colorado. Evander Kane scored the lone goal of the first period at the 12:03 mark to give the Sharks a 1-0 advantage off assists by Brent Burns and Tomas Hertl. The Avalanche scored twice in the second period and again midway through the third period to go up 3-1. A goal by Burns with 4:34 remaining made it a 3-2 game with assists going to Erik Karlsson and Marcus Sorensen. Colorado scored with 1:02 left to push its lead back to two goals. Burns scored again on the power play with 11 seconds remaining for the game’s final goal on assists by Hertl and Kane. Martin Jones surrendered three goals on 31 shots in the losing effort.

Barrie guides Avs to win

Colorado evened its series at 1-1 Sunday night with a 4-3 victory at San Jose in the Western Conference semifinals. After trailing 1-0 through one period, the Avs tied it up on a Gabriel Landeskog goal with 11:39 left in the second period with assists going to Tyson Barrie and Nathan MacKinnon. Barrie put Colorado ahead later in the first period on assists by Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen. Matt Nieto pushed it to 3-1 with 9:50 remaining in the second period on assists from Matt Calvert and Barrie. The Sharks cut it back to 3-2, but with 1:02 left an empty-net goal from MacKinnon on asssists from Calvert and Philipp Grubauer helped put it away. Grubauer allowed three goals on 34 shots between the pipes to help the Avs to the victory.

NHL Betting Trends

San Jose

The Sharks are 4-1 in their last five games overall. San Jose is 12-4 in its last 16 games versus the Central Division.

Colorado

The Avalanche are 5-0 in their last five games as a home favorite. Colorado is 13-3 in its last 16 games as a home favorite.

Prediction:

Colorado is playing above their heads right now and managed to get the series back even, but I think San Jose returns the favor here. The Sharks have been playing with emotion and desperation since falling behind in their series against Las Vegas. San Jose doesn’t want to fall into another series deficit and look for Burns to put together another big performance to help send the visitors to the win.
