Chris Paul has been picking up the slack with Devin Booker sidelined, averaging 23.8 points per game in Booker’s absence, and we expect that to continue against the Mavericks.

Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks were supposed to be a team on the rise this season, but that hasn’t been the case as the Mavs have dropped five consecutive games and are near the bottom of the Western Conference standings.

Things won’t get any easier for them Monday as they try to defeat a Phoenix Suns team that beat them 111-105 as 1-point NBA betting road underdogs this past weekend.

Can the Mavs end their skid, or will the Suns take them down again? Check out our NBA free picks and predictions for Suns vs. Mavericks on February 1 and find out.

Against the Spread (ATS) Pick

Saturday’s 111-105 loss to the Suns extended the Mavericks’ losing streak to five games, dropping them to 8-12 on the season. The more worrying part for their backers is that they’ve failed to cover the spread in each of those five games. In fact, the Mavs are just 2-8 SU and 3-7 ATS over their last 10 games.

The biggest problem for the Mavs this season has been getting reliable scoring outside of Doncic. Dallas led the NBA in offensive rating a season ago but is currently ranked 19th in the league. The Mavs also rank 21st in effective field goal percentage and are the worst 3-point shooting team in the NBA. That doesn’t bode overly well against a Suns team that ranks fifth in defensive rating and opponent scoring.

The biggest issue for the Suns in this matchup is that they’ll once again be without leading scorer Devin Booker, who is expected to miss his fifth straight game due to a hamstring injury. But luckily for the Suns, veteran point guard Chris Paul picked up the offensive slack the last time these two teams met, putting up 29 points in Phoenix’s victory Saturday.

The Suns also have a big edge on the glass. They rank 16th in rebounding percentage, led by Deandre Ayton’s team-leading 12.6 boards per game, while the Mavs rank 28th.

With the Mavericks’ inconsistent offense and the Suns’ tough defense, the Suns are the better play here, even without Booker.

PREDICTION: Suns +3 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

The total for this matchup opened at 219.5, but early Under money has driven it all the way down to 216.5, and there’s a good reason why.

While the Suns have played well despite Booker’s absence, they are averaging just 105 points in regulation in the four games he has missed. The Mavericks, meanwhile, rank 21st in points per game at 108.7, and that number has dropped to 106.2 during their five-game skid.

Mix in two solid defensive teams and you should jump on this number quickly before it gets any lower.

PREDICTION: Under 216.5 (-110)
