Rays drop fourth straight

After scoring three runs in the top of the ninth inning to take the lead, Tampa Bay surrendered four runs in the bottom half Thursday night to fall 5-4 at Oakland. Tommy Pham paced the Rays offense as he was 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk, a stolen base and two runs scored. Avisail Garcia finished 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Willy Adames went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Diego Castillo suffered the loss in relief as he surrendered four earned runs on two hits with one strikeout and two walks over two-thirds of an inning. Andrew Kittridge will be the opener tonight for Tampa Bay as he enters with a 0-0 record, 5.40 ERA and 1.80 WHIP with three strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings.

Chapman walks it off

Matt Chapman socked a two-out three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth Thursday night to lift Oakland to a thrilling 5-4 home victory over Tampa Bay. Chapman finished 2-for-4 with the 3-run blast plus a walk. Jurickson Profar finished 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and two runs scored. Robbie Grossman finished the contest 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run. Lou Trivino picked up the win in relief as he retired the lone batter he faced in relief via strikeout. Tanner Anderson will start tonight for the Athletics as he comes in with an 0-1 record, 3.27 ERA and 0.82 WHIP with eight strikeouts over 11 innings.

MLB Betting Trends

Tampa Bay

The Rays are 0-4 in their last four road games. Tampa Bay is 2-5 in its last seven games versus the AL West.

The A’s are 6-0 in their last six games versus the AL East. Oakland is 5-2 in its last seven Friday games.

Tampa Bay is going through a rough stretch, but it’s the type of team that typically stays away from prolonged losing skids. The Rays are going to keep Oakland off balance today with its opener approach and even more so, I don’t trust Anderson to continue his nice MLB start to his career after posting underwhelming numbers in the minors. Go with the Rays to snap their losing streak tonight.
