Public Betting Trends

According to oddsmakers, the Athletics are the favorite at home tonight, as they are getting odds of -115 to win. The Rangers are listed with a money line of +100 to win, while the over/under total is set at 9 runs. The public betting for the contest currently has 72 percent going on the Athletics at home. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our MLB Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.

Rangers take opener

Texas was on an 8-game losing streak but has won two of its last three games following an 11-3 win over Oakland last night. The Rangers are 52-51 on the season, 21-30 on the road and 52-49 with the under. Lance Lynn gets the start for the Rangers this evening. He is 12-6 on the season with a 3.93 ERA.

The Rangers put up 11 unanswered runs on Thursday night after falling behind 3-0 in the first inning. Ariel Jurado had a rough start, but locked in to throw seven innings and allow three runs on just three hits. He is now 6-6 on the season. At the plate, Danny Santana had a grand slam, finished with three hits and six RBI. Asdrubal Cabrera added three hits with a RBI and two runs scored.

Athletics on a skid

Oakland is on a bit of a skid right now, as the Athletics have lost four of their last five games. Oakland is 58-46 on the season, 31-21 at home and 54-50 with the under. Daniel Mengden gets the start for Oakland tonight. He is 5-1 on the season with a 4.65 ERA.

The Athletics finished with just three hits in the game after scoring three runs in the first inning. Ramon Laureano had a hit and drove in two of the three runs for Oakland while Khris Davis drove in the other run. Brett Anderson took the loss on the mound to fall to 9-6 on the year. He threw 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits.

MLB Betting Trends

Texas

The Rangers are just 2-7 in their last nine division games and 1-6 in their last seven against a winning team.

Oakland

The Athletics have won six of their last seven home games and 13 of their last 16 following a loss.

Prediction:

Lynn has had pretty good numbers for the year, but has given up nine runs over his last 13 innings. Still, he is consistently getting deep into games, usually going seven or more innings. Oakland has been a bit of a sore spot for him, as he has a 9.64 ERA over two starts against the Athletics. Mengden hasn’t been terribly sharp in recent starts and he has yet to face the Rangers. Given Texas’ scoring output on Thursday, I think it could be a sign that the Rangers are back to being one of the top offenses in the league. I like Lynn over Mengden on the mound tonight as well.

MLB Prediction: Texas Rangers +100
