Washington Nationals Fantasy Spin

Anthony Rendon went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored as his team fell to the Mets on Saturday. He hit a game-tying, solo home run in the eighth inning off of Jeurys Familia. He doubled in the sixth inning and then scored on a Ryan Zimmerman ground-out. The third baseman is on fire to start the season. He is now slashing .444/.516/.926 with three home runs, six RBI and nine runs scored through seven games.

New York Mets Fantasy Spin

Michael Conforto went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored in a win over the Nationals on Saturday. His home run off Patrick Corbin was one of five dingers hit by the Mets in the contest. Conforto doubled in the eighth inning and came around to score the winning run on a single by Keon Broxton later in the frame. The 26-year-old outfielder owns a .333/.389/.485 triple slash with one home run, one RBI and seven runs scored through eight games.

MLB Betting Trends

Washington

The Nationals are a perfect 5-0 in Scherzer’s last five road starts versus the Mets and are 53-22 in their last 75 road games against New York overall.

New York

The Mets have lost six of Zack Wheeler’s last eight home starts versus the Nationals.

Prediction:

It’s not often when we can grab the Nationals under -150 with Scherzer on the mound. Granted, Washington is 0-2 in his two starts this year but it’s not as if Scherzer has pitched poorly. He went 7 2/3 versus this New York team on Opening Day, holding the Mets to only two runs on two hits while striking out 12. He just didn’t get any run support as Jacob deGrom out-dueled him in a 2-0 Mets victory. His last start came at home versus the Phillies, who “tagged” him for two runs on seven hits over 5 innings of work. Scherzer struck out nine batters in that game. Could Wheeler out-pitch Scherzer like deGrom did on Opening Day? Sure. But at -135, I’m willing to take the risk.

The Pick: Washington Nationals -135
