According to oddsmakers, the Nationals are a -112 favorite to win on the moneyline. The Mets are a +102 underdog, while the total is set at 8.5 runs. Syndergaard strong in return

Mets righty Noah Syndergaard made his first start since May 20 and came away with the win as he allowed one earned run on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks over five innings. Robert Gsellman gave up one earned run on one hit in two innings of work to earn his fourth save. New York scored three in the first and one in the second to take a 4-0 advantage en route to the 4-2 victory. Brandon Nimmo went 3-for-5 with a run from the top of the order. Asdrubal Cabrera was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run. Michael Conforto finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Amed Rosario continued his strong recent hitting by going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and a run.

Adams homers in defeat

Matt Adams finished 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Friday’s loss. Adam Eaton was 2-for-5, while Wilmer Difo went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Tanner Roark helped his own cause by going 1-for-1 with a triple and a run, but he also took the loss in the contest. Roark gave up four earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks over five innings.

Austin Voth (0-0, 0.00 ERA) starts today for the Nats, while the Mets counter with Zack Wheeler (2-6, 4.42).

MLB Betting Trends

Washington

The Nationals are 3-11 in their last 14 road games. The under is 10-3 in the last 13 Washington games on Saturdays.

New York

The Mets are 7-20 in their last 27 home games. New York is 18-50 in its last 68 home games versus Washington.

Prediction:

I don’t really trust a rookie pitcher making his MLB debut, but there are tougher lineups to navigate through than the Mets. Washington knows it must win games and get series wins. With this series split at a game apiece, the Nats need to turn it up a notch here. Washington has great history at Citi Field and I’d expect it to continue today against the very hittable Wheeler.
