Public Betting Trends

According to the latest oddsmakers, Michigan State is the favorite at home in this game, as the Spartans are getting odds of -16 points against Western Michigan. The over/under total for the game is listed at 46.5 points. The public betting currently has 51 percent going on Western Michigan as the road underdog. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our NCAAF Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.

Broncos cruise past Monmouth

Western Michigan opened up its season at home, picking up a 48-13 win over Monmouth last weekend. The Broncos easily covered as a 24.5-point favorite while going under the 73.5-point total.

It was a strong showing for the Broncos in the opener, as they put up 458 yards of offense, including 368 yards through the air. Defensively, WMU was able to hold Monmouth to 322 total yards. Jon Wassink threw for 368 yards and five touchdowns on 20 of 25 passing to lead Western in the win while DaShon Bussell and Giovanni Ricci combined for 10 receptions for 213 yards and two scores. LeVante Bellamy led the ground game with just 53 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown.

Spartans win, don’t cover

Michigan State was able to win its opener over Tulsa at home, 28-7, but the Spartans were just shy of covering the 22-point spread. They did easily go under the 47.5-point total. MSU has hit the under in nine straight games, dating back to last season.

The Spartans got the win last Friday, but their offense was still not looking the way you’d want to see it. MSU had just 303 total yards in the win. Defensively, MSU was absolutely dominant, as it held Tulsa to just 80 total yards and an amazing -73 rushing yards. MSU forced three turnovers and produced a touchdown and a safety. The Spartans only had one TD drive on offense and three of their field goals came on drives of less than 10 yards thanks to the defense fiving it great field position. Kenny Willekes had seven tackles, 1.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries to lead the MSU defense. Brian Lewerke threw for 192 yards and a touchdown on 21 of 37 passing to lead the offense.

College Football Betting Trends

Western Michigan

The Broncos have hit the under in six straight against Big Ten opponents and in four of their last five non-conference games.

Michigan State

Michigan State has hit the under in five straight home games and seven straight games on grass.

Prediction:

The Michigan State defense is legit. As long as the Spartans can stay healthy, they are going to be one of the best in the nation and I think Western Michigan is going to be in trouble offensively in this one. However, MSU’s offense is a mess and its offensive line can’t seem to block anyone. The Broncos should find success on defense in this game. I don’t see the MSU defense being able to put up double-digit points each week or put multiple field goals on a tee for the offense. MSU’s offense is going to have to move the ball eventually to win. Until it does that, I can’t take an over with the Spartans.

College Football Week 2 Prediction: Western Michigan/Michigan State Under 46.5
